I can't export any of my designs onto my computer

I would like to export my design as a .stp. When I try, I get the message, Translator failed to export the asset as file: "/Users/christian/Desktop/Beacon Knob Bottom v1.step". I thought it might have been an issue with the design so I tried exporting a different design. I got the same error. This happens with every one of my designs. (I have exported many times before FYI.)

This is the Error message in the lower right corner, Error: boost::filesystem::copy_file: Operation not permitted: "/var/folders/yt/1dbk5dzj5rgg4w248sb24h700000gn/T/com.autodesk.mas.fusion360/Neutron/45b49cd6-180f-4a1e-9e82-199ae3f07b6b.stp", "/Users/christian/Desktop/Beacon Knob Bottom v1.step"

If I try to export my designs in any other format, nothing happens. I never get an export at all. Sometimes, I get an error message but most of the time, nothing at all happens.

Also, I have cleared the Cache data under help multiple times. I have also restarted my computer a few times over the past few days. I am using version 2.0.4262

I'm not involved with the programming of Fusion 360 in any way, but quite honestly, have you tried uninstalling + reinstalling? It's quite fast, so I think it's worth a shot.

That was a good thought so I tried it. I did a full clear and reinstalled it twice. I now have a new problem. When I go to Export, I see a red message on the export window. The message says, A file name may not contain any of the following characters: \/:*"<>. This message is there no matter what my title is.

Basically, I can't even attempt to export now. I have also tried this on multiple designs with the same problem.

Okay, I have a stretch solution here. Find or download a step file. Then go to the export menu. Change the directory to which it saves at using the browser, and select the preexisting file. Fusion should now try to replace to file, but since the file already exists, it should have a valid file name.

Otherwise, I have no idea. I guess double check you're not using any special characters.

No dice. I attached a screen video of my issue. (I don't know if I mentioned I have a mac.) I have also reinstalled the program after seeing this issue.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the tag @TrippyLighting

I've seen this once before and a clean uninstall and reinstall cleared this up. Let's give this a shot to ensure we are working with a clean slate. Especially since, this is a new issue that appeared on your machine.

To do this, ensure that all of your data is saved to the cloud as your offline cache will be lost.

  • Close Fusion 360
  • Download and run our clean uninstall utility here
  • Restart your computer
  • Reinstall Fusion from here

Does the export functionality work now?

Thank,s

Ok. I did the clean uninstall before but I didn't restart my computer in between. I will try it out.

I want to make sure I do this in the right sequence. When I did the clean uninstall, I noticed it cleared the entire cache but didn't delete the program. This is what I am going to do, let me know if this is right. (This is on a mac)

1. Drag Fusion 360 program to the trash

2. Empty the trash to to a mac uninstall

3. Run the clean uninstall program

4. Restart computer

5. Install Fusion 360 from the link you provided

6. See if I can export.

Those are going to be my steps right after I finish typing this. I will let you know what happens. Let me know if I did  steps 1-3 out of order.

Hi @Anonymous,

That should fix it (or traditionally it has). Do the steps in your order, and let me know what you find.

Thanks,

I did all of the steps in order and I am still experiencing the same issue. Before today, I downloaded the program from the mac store. Since I still have the issue from a different download source, I was wondering if it may just be a problem with my account. I made a new trial account and created a quick design. When I tried to export that file, I experienced the same issue. I have no idea what is wrong with this thing. I first noticed the issue with the update where the color of the logo changed. The app store show that update was installed on June 15th, 2018. Any ideas?

Hi @Anonymous,

Sorry for the delay. I took another peek at the screencast and I noticed that the directory field looks empty in export... is still the case? From your video, compared to mine on the right:

Screen Shot 2018-06-26 at 12.22.26 PM.pngScreen Shot 2018-06-26 at 12.26.13 PM.png

As you can see, my directory is filled out. If you click the dots and manually choose a spot to save to, does it work?

Thanks,
