I can cop,y but cant paste

I have a component that i need to copy and paste, I can right click and copy it , but when I right click on empty space there isn't any 'paste' command.

I have tried several ways and cannot get the 'paste command to show.

When I try the Move/Copy tool and select 'Make Copy" Fusion crashes.

I found similar problem with copy and paste on the forum and there is explained that copy&paste workflow doesn't work when trying to copy active Component (it's a wrong attempt of inserting component into itself), so please activate the root component in the browser clicking on the radio button then Copy & Paste workflow should work...

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Josef

To paste I found going to the origin (center x,y,z) and right clicking there will allow me to paste and the pasted object as if I was on a different design.

Are you trying to paste Sketches or Bodies?

I also found you can select shapes and copy them but if you aren't in an active sketch you can't paste.

Kinda weird but I guess it doesn't know which sketch to put it in if you you have multiple sketches in a design.

And what was previously shown in the screencast is that when you copy and paste the paste is in exactly the location it was copied from and you have to move it from there.

Good luck

JC

You know, I couldnt stop myself from saying this but, needing to watch a tutorial to copy and paste is a telltale sign somethings are off :). Just a little criticism.

It doesn't work for me at all. Can cut, but no paste options - the video is a much older version of Fusion where I guess they managed to get it working, but must have broken it again since then. I ended up having to completely remake the part. You'd think in 2024 Autodesk would have managed to get C&P to work 🤣

Works here.  What are you trying to copy, and where do you want to put it?

Just a body from a component. Can copy, but there is no paste option at all in any menu. Clicked on the root node, nothing, created another component to hold it, nothing. Right-clicked background, no option to paste. Probably a bug, but it's annoying. Ah, if I create another new body I can copy and paste that, but cannot copy and paste an earlier one from an imported STEP model. I'll just report it as a bug.

First clue

cannot copy and paste an earlier one from an imported STEP model.

Will arrive in Fusion as a Base Model.  Edit the Base Model icon, to gain access to the data.

I don't use this workflow, now Copy to memory, Exit the Base Model, and now you should / might / maybe get to Paste as per normal.

Might help.....

Thanks, I used the bodies of the STEP model to project onto new sketches and re-made it then deleted the STEP model - I don't usually import STEP models, but this was the only reference available. Why does it let you copy a body from a STEP if you can't actually do anything with it afterwards? Surely it would be better to grey out "Copy", or if it's used, tell the user the body cannot be copied because XYZ?

You could create a screencast of the workflow. I can't relate to what you are seeing, and I use imported geometry from STEP files very frequently.

I worked around the issue. It turns out to be an issue with importing STEP files, which is something I haven't needed to do before. I rarely use Fusion except to model electronics components for use in displaying PCB designs for clients. I generally just model the whole component from the data-sheet, but this time wanted to save some time - turned out to be a bad idea! 🙂
