How to wrap a component rather than a sketch on a curve

Hi Everyone.

I am trying to wrap or emboss a component onto a cylinder. I am really struggling, when I use a combine act it is not taking all the shape. It almost needs to be a wrap or emboss cut, but it wont let me pick up the component. Can anyone advise if there is a way to do this as I am really struggling.

I am self taught with CAD and Fusion has been such a great programme to learn with, but I am still learning everyday.

Really appreciate any thoughts.

Sweep-Cut with Solid Body.

But first I would clean up the existing geometry.

Does Ctrl b (CMD b on Mac) return any errors?

Are there any unresolved issued highlighted on your Timeline?

I recommend starting over from scratch using what was learned from this attempt.

You will only need one candy in the assembly.

Edit: Forget the candy for a moment.  Concentrate on the roller.  Why is this not symmetrical about the Origin?

In the end you will need one roller and one candy.  Then use Pattern for the imprints. Keep it simple, let Fusion do the work.

Hi, Thank you for your advice.

I have started again so get rid of all the errors.. And thanks for the tip (control and B) i didn't know about this.

Okay, so I have redrawn the roller so it is symmetrical with the origin.. (This was just my bad drawing). I have now added one candy and have tried the sweep cut (the best way I can as I have never used the sweep command before).. I don't know if i'm still, doing something wrong though as this has imprinted the roller, but only as a downwards action, like it would on the command option. It hasn't wrapped it like I was hoping. The straight edge has only cut at the front and back.

Any more guidance on what i'm doing wrong is highly appreciated.

I have attached my new fd3.

Hello, sorry, I thought I had replied to you directly, but it looks like I wrote it on the page instead. I appreciate your help.

Any ideas?

Is it really your true Design Intent to have this rectangular tab offset from the Origin center of the Cylinder?

If I start over - I have a single sketch with one circle and one rectangle.

My next step will be to Extrude the rectangle and then Extrude the Circle.

Hello,

Yes. This rectangle I just joint to the side of the cylinder so that I could join the sweet to it to be able to move it in position above the cylinder. I offset this -1mm as the rectangle is 2mm thick. this way the top of the rectangle is the origin, so when I joined the sweet to it the centre of the sweet was on the origin. I hope this makes sense. I didnt know any other way to join the sweet without this as I struggle with joining to a cylinder directly. So i make the rectangle just to position the sweet.

Kind Regards

Hello,

I have changed the model so that the rectangle is in the origin, and moved the sweet down 1mm, however this still hasn't changed the sweep to wrap around the cylinder?

Any advise

Many Thanks

Note how simple my file is compared to yours (see Attached).

Next we will model the candy in the same logical and simple way.

Next in my simplified file I hide Body 1 and Sketch 1...

TheCADWhisperer_0-1748880495945.png

and create Sketch2 Ellipse keeping everything simple.

Attach your progress file here.

Thank you. I have done this, apart from my first elipse wouldnt turn black either, but i cant move or extend it either, so maybe it is fixed?

You are missing a Vertical constraint on this construction line.

Good Morning,

I have redone the sketch and I think everything has now got a constraint, all black lines.

Please see attached

Use Geometry Constraints in preference over dimensions when appropriate.

In this case use a Vertical Constraint on the construction line rather than a 90° dimension (and in other cases use a Perpendicular Constraint rather than the dimension).

Hi! If you want to create the rounded body based on the sketches in Cylinder v4.f3d, the quickest way will be leveraging the Non-Uniform Scale workflow. Here is what you need to do.

1) Edit Sketch2 -> create a center line bisecting the ellipse (or convert the construction line to a solid line) -> Finish Sketch.

2) Revolve the half elliptical profile around the center line 180 deg.

3) Go to Modify -> Scale -> Non Uniform Scale -> select the body -> set Z scale factor to 0.5 (depending on your design intent).

You will get an extremely smooth body like this.

Many thanks!
