How to upload 3D dxf file from DelftShip?

Hi!

I am completely new in the area of Fusion. I hope that I put this post on right place.

The problem arises when I tryed to import 3D DXF file into Fusion. Can I, somehow, import this file? I can not find "Upload" command in the Data Panel.

Thank you for the help.

I have the message as shown in the picture

Kind regards,
Hrvoje 🙂

@Hrvoje-

I wasn't offering to do it for you but rather to take what you have and make a video of how you could do it that way you would know how.

I prefer to show people how to take what they have and get it to a finished state on their own.

If I get some time this weekend I want to play around with Delftship and see what I can come up with. If I find a useful work flow I will make a video and post it to help you out.

I always wanted to model a ship...I guess now I have an excuse...lol

I tryed to upload AutoCAD DWG file.

This is the content of DWG file:

Fusion_2016.04.03_21h57m09s_001.jpg

And this is what I get after upload:

Fusion_2016.04.03_22h00m51s_002.jpg

It is obvious that sections, 3D polylines, are not included in the Fusion file. At least they are not visible, but where are they (sections)?

What could be the problem?

Kind regards,
Hrvoje 🙂

Can you attach the dwg file I'll take a look at it in Rhino and see if I can figure what's wrong. I've found dwg to be very good a getting info into Fusion so there might be a setting for the type of spline that's the problem.

Mark

Edit is all the info in the file, are there any xrefs?

I don't think these curves are going to be something you can work with.

Just this one small curve is made from 500 short line segmants, trying to build a surface off of that is not going to work in any programe I've used.

Is there any way to save as splines of any sort.

Hi, Mark!

Thank you for your engagement. I will see how to change 3D Polylines into the Splines. It does not work even with 10 times smaller number od points included in the definition of the line.

Kind regards,
Hrvoje 🙂

I've just thought of something else you're going to need to do. Each cross section needs to be on it's own layer, when you import, each layer will become a sketch. At the moment you have several cross sections on the same layer and they would all end up in the same sketch but for Lofts i think the cross sections would need to be in different sketches.

I've been thinking about this some more. Something that could be a problem is even if you put each section on a different layer the sketch will not be at Z0.0.

Here's a simple example with 3 circles, each was on a separate layer and when imported created a sketch for each circle but the origin is the same for all of them. This means they are 3d sketches and this might be a problem.

All component origins are on and at the same point.

Clipboard9.png

In the test below I made blocks and set the block origin at the centre of each circle. This give you a 2d sketch with the origin and circle at Z0.0

Clipboard8.png

I can create a loft between the circles in the first example so I might be worrying about nothing but I thought I'd put my thoughts here.Smiley Indifferent

I'm still trying to figure something out that will work for you, right now I can do it using the apps I have, but not just the two apps (Delftship and Fusion360).

The problem here is the lack of export formats and the type of data being exported.

Obj would work if it wasn't over 10,000 polygons.....

DXF is hard if not impossible to work with....

Thank you for opening the door. I will follow your instruction and see what I can do. I already succedeed to import one section and I got closed surface. Now I must see how to put each section on its place along ship's length.

Thank you a lot!
