How to specify which point is fixed with Dimension tool?

If I use the Dimension tool to force a dimension between two points, how does Fusion know which point is fixed versus moved?  How can I change it?

Example:

Simply draw two arbitrary rectangles next to each other in a sketch.  Now press "D" and click a point (or side) of one rectangle, and likewise click the other rectangle.  Set the dimension value, and watch one of the rectangles move to enforce the distance.  GREAT!  But it ALWAYS moves the SAME one.

Of the two points/objects, how do I specify the one I intend to be FIXED versus the one that should move?

Is your sketch fully constrained?

Yes and No. In my example, the rectangles are floating in space.  Their dimensions are constrained, but they can be moved about the plane with respect to each other.  So when I want to in fact constrain the dimension between them, one of them moves but the other does not, and it's always the same one.

IMHO it only works if you fully constrain your elements in the sketch. The lines are still blue, right?

oh, I get it now.  My mistake was that one of the rectangles happened to have a point on the center origin of the sketch, BUT was not constrained to that point, so when I used the dimension tool, it kept pulling it off that point.

Note to self: drawing a sketch on the origin/axis doesn't also auto-constrain to that point.  🙂
