How to select profile inside of a body

Hello,

I am struggling to extrude a profile I made on the midplane of a cylindrical part.  The profile I created is on the mid plane and therefore is located inside the material.  When I try to extrude the sketch, it won't let me select the profile.  I can only select the surface of the cylinder, but can't get the computer to recognize the sketch.  Please help.

Thanks,

Roger

There are a couple of tricks that can make this work:

1. use the "Slice Sketch" feature to temporarily remove the display of the cylinder that is between the sketch and the camera:

slice 2.png

2. use "select other" (press and hold the left mouse button to get a list of items under the cursor)

3. rotate the view slightly - the Extrude command will only select planar items, so it can select through the curved side of the cylinder:

in this view, you will get the top of the cylinder:

but rotate it slightly, and you can select through the sides:

hope this helps

Thank you so much for that response.  I just wanted to comment that the last option you suggested does not work for me.  It should be the easiest to just rotate the view and select, but for some reason, my computer doesn't see through the cylinder wall.  Maybe this is a bug??

Same problem here none of these worked for me.  It seems like the simplest solution would be to have the program sense that you are mousing over a feature that is inside the volume.  Or use an alt or option key stroke to select behind something. This isn't a problem I have with solidworks.

making sure Select Through is ticked.
