How to scale or slice an object

First time user here and i'm really struggling with fusion. Anyway, first thing i need help with is making a cap on this octagonal object. I thought of either scaling down another piece to a flat (4mm) thick shape then placing it on top. Then thought of slicing it and doing the same but you cant scale down apparently and the slice tool just doesn't work. Also thought of drawing a cap from scratch but can't figure out how to copy an existing object in sketch.

I can't even select objects half the time, this sucks

The picture shows 3 tumblers that are or were STL (mesh) bodies.

Start using Fusion Tools.  There are no free lunches in Fusion.

Sketch a polygon with 8 sides.

Extrude the sketch shape, for height

Shell - select the top face, set wall thickness.

Step timeline, Lid is Moved for clarity.

Might help….

Hi,

Every one of the operations you mentioned are achieveable. It isn't the software

that "sucks" but there may be a disconnect between the user and the software. My

advice to you is to get onto the Documentation and Self Paced Learning. There are

links from within Fusion. The Documentation contains many Tutorials and the Self

Paced Learning uses many practical scenarios to help you learn.

I am no Guru but I started where you are now and this is exactly what I did to learn.

The learning curve is not steep but like anything, you get out of it what you put into

it. Practice does make perfect.

It is also very helpful to post a image of what you are trying to achieve AND post

your File so the Gurus and other Knowledgeable people who help out here can actually

have a look at what you have done and give you advice on how to fix it.

Also do a Search for the three RULES - Rule 0, 1 and 2. These used to be Pinned to the

top of the Forum and are very useful in learning Fusion.

Cheers

Andrew

1. How did you model the octagonal object?

2. Extrude new body from sketch at desired thickness.

3. Slice would also work just fine.

4. No need to copy sketch.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply and we can work through this step-by-step (after you have examined @davebYYPCU file attachment).
