How to prevent window from panning after clicking sketch

Hi, I'm a new user so please bear with this question. But I'm just not certain why it does what it does and is frustrating.

If I'm zoomed into my design and I spot something I need to edit with a sketch, I select the sketch command, and then click the image, but then the window pans somewhere else I don't know why. I then have to pan over and zoom back to the spot I was zoomed in on. This gets tiring after having to do this each time. How can I get it so that it stays put, zoomed in on the specific area I'm zoomed in on, when I select the sketch command and click on the image? Thanks
