How to pan with a Mac Magic Trackpad and Fusion 360

Anonymous

I just purchased a trackpad specifically to use with Fusion 360 panning feature. I want to pan within my design without having to annoyingly click the pan feature button every single time i need to pan. I then have to deselect it when I've done, which luckily is the easiest to do with the ESC key. Panning in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is a breeze, how can i make it easy in Fusion 360?

Hello richielau,

Also check in the Preferences that "Use gesture-based view navigation" is on.

I wish a three-finger drag would orbit instead of dragging out a selection box.  That would fit the convention for Mac apps better (e.g. try opening a .stl file in Preview).

Well I got into this same frustrating situation where the magic trackpad was only zooming in and out as opposed to panning with two fingers like I had been doing previously.

The only thing that had changed was my accepting "sh" to use accessibility features of my Mac, which I had read was to ensure compatibility with Mac trackpads. Once I had given "sh" permissions, that's when the trouble started, and no amount of messing with the preferences seemed to make any difference.

So I opened up the Security Preference, went to the Accessibility tab, found the entry for "sh" and UNCHECKED it (disallowed it). This did not take until I had REBOOTED the Mac and then relaunched F360, and functionality was back to normal.

For the record, it's a very poor trackpad implementation - really clunky compared to others. I'm coming in from OnShape and the navigation with trackpad was butter. Two-finger swipe to pan, two-finger click and drag to orbit.

It's so frustrating how many things there are like this where the program has minor issues that not only keep it falling short of greatness but needlessly render it almost unusable

Hello, I am running into the pan issue as well with my trackpad.

Can you please confirm what "sh" refers to please and what needs to be switched off in the accessibility menu?

Thanks

Having looked into it a bit more I found this experimental feature that does solve the issue for me:

Since the new security login via web update, I can't get it to pan with two-finger gesture anymore.
It was quirky before, quiting and restarting usually fixes it but now it's permanenly zooming when two-finger gesture is used.

Yes, and I've just retried it, but it didn't help.  I seem to have lost the ability to pan as well as orbit now - two-finger drag zooms in/out instead of panning, and two-finger drag whilst holding shift does nothing at all.

😞
