How to mirror multiple components

Is there some way I can mirror multiple components in one operation. I can select more than one body to mirror but if the bodies are first converted to components I can then only select one component at a time to mirror.

Hi,

It looks like you can't mirror multiple bodies if they're in separate components, but if you move bodies to the same component, you can mirror them then.  Otherwise, looks like you'd have to do multiple operations.

You can drag individual bodies into different components in the browser.

Hope that helps at least a little!

Thanks
Tanner

It is possible to mirror multiple components / objects, you can right click on a selected set of components and choose "Create Selection Set", then you can start the mirror operation, and click the little "x" next to the "1 selected" default, or click to select if nothing is selected, but once it's cleared and the mirror tool select operation is active, go to "Selection Sets" in the browser, and click the "Select" icon at the end of the name, and then the mirror tool will show multiple items selected and mirror them all at once.

1. Mirroring components is no a good idea in many cases.

2. The 2 posts in this thread that you responded to  are from 2015. Fusion 360 has seen significant changes since then.

I was given half a symmetric model and needed to create a the other half to complete it, so I used the mirror tool and it worked great. The only problem I had was it only let me select one object at time to mirror and so it was a labor intensive operation since I had so many components and bodies from the imported files. I searched around and couldn't find any other solutions so I thought I'd post here since it appeared (at the time of that post) there was no other way I could find to "Mirror Multiple Components"

Just tried mirroring several components at the same time and it worked fine. If you have a component and a mirror plane selected are you holding the Ctrl key down while adding more components?

Just noticed something odd with mirroring bodies though, I can only select one body if I try and pick one at a time but I can window select as many as I want. Edit Also works is if set paint selection. @jeff_strater is this a bug. Would like to tag jeff in but tagging someone who's not in the thread doesn't seem to be workingSmiley Sad

Hi @HughesTooling,

Thanks for the notice (it worked, but I agree that mentioning someone not already in the thread is a pain.  You have to know, and type in the whole name before you can see it).

The behavior (if I'm interpreting your question correctly) is not a bug.  It involves the convention in Fusion where, if there is a preview visible, you have to hold down CTRL (CMD on Mac) to add to a selection.  You see the same behavior in Extrude or Fillet.  Once you have a preview, you have to CTRL-select to add to the profile or edge selection.

In the video below, I show that selecting two bodies to mirror works if you select the bodies first.  But, if you select one body, then the mirror plane, we are in a preview state, and you have to use CTRL-select to add bodies to mirror.  I know that this is somewhat undiscoverable, but it's at least consistent...

@jeff_strater Thanks for the screencast. I'd tried that but it wouldn't work for me but testing a bit more I've found the difference, try converting the bodies into 2 different components and you can only pick one body at a time, holding Ctrl down makes no difference. If you window select or use the paint select option you can select bodies from different components.

Ah, that's the missing link:  different components.  Let me look into this.  I was about to say that it was by design, but once I started to think about it, that doesn't make sense.  I'll get back to you
