How to Indent a Pattern on a Unusual Shape

Hi

I have started work on creating this spaceship in fusion from a old movie and one of the engines has a very definite pattern around it.

I have created the shape of the engine but I am not sure how to add the pattern around such an unusual shape.

I have attached the fusion file for you to use.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Is there a logical reason that you are not making use of obvious symmetry about the Origin?

I was going to demonstrate the technique that I would use - but you have already made this far more complex than needed.

Edit: Yikes.  The first thing I would have done is split this up into two different canvases and centered them at the Origin.

Back in a minute.

See Attached.

Hi

It seems a habit that I have in making things hard at the start and then realizing it could have been done simpler.

I still appreciate any advice you may give.

You have been using Fusion for a while.  (3.5 years?)

Why not make it a new year's resolution to develop best practices this year?

Start a project and verify each and every step with the experts here before proceeding to next step.

For me, the first two steps in this project would have been to place the top and side view canvases at the Origin - recognizing that there is a lot of symmetry in this design.

(And in fact in Nature and in man-made design - there  is usually symmetry, we are after all a product of nature.)

Hi

True, 3 or 4 years now. I must admit that there are some projects that I have used the canvas' correctly, especially with a Dr Who K9, that I had access to four or five angles to work with.

I didn't think of doing that in this case but I realize now that is what I should have done. I am about to finish of a few projects and will be starting a new few, so I could do what you suggest and perhaps start it on here and start getting rid of my bad habits.

That being said, here is a sample of the work I have done, that whilst the fusion work has been problematic, I have got results.

But probably would have achieved it easier and neater doing it correctly.

Hi

I just looked at your solution and kicked myself.

I have cut created sketches and used these to cut bodies and then created a circular pattern using faces plenty of times before.

Such a straightforward solution that I should have known.

Thank you for reminding me of it and sorry for the stupidity on my part for not remembering something I use all the time.

Kind Regards

Ian
