How to evenly wrap text around a sphere?

Greetings,
Im having a little trouble evenly wrapping a number 2 around a sphere surface. 
I have extruded down into the sphere and changed it to extend to object, then combined and cut and pull up. And that worked perfectly and a less steep curve, but on this more ball surface , the 2 isnt even all around as you can see in the photo. the end of the 2 is sticking out more than the middle. How can i fix this?

I think you had a few too many steps in the extrusion process
