how to emboss, or deboss, grooves into a lofted curved surface?

Per this other thread, apparently emboss (or deboss like I want) does not work on double-curved surfaces, only simple curves which can be unfolded w/o distortion; it directly states the clue that a curved surface will not work is that you cannot select it, just like my situation where I cannot select my curved face.

I'm trying to replicate this model picture, thus I want to get the grooves into curved surface of my body. I have an offset plane with the 30 grooves that I want, but I can't figure a solution to do the deboss into my curved body. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

Hi ,

try extrude "start from object " command.. or attach your file

@aliobidi has the correct answer here.  But, just FYI, Emboss to doubly-curved surfaces is in progress and, while I can't say when this functionality will appear in Fusion, it is on the way.

@jeff_strater -once the enhanced deboss is available, would it even be the right tool here?  the grooves on the object are straight,  wouldnt debossing straight lines onto a curved surface produce a curved groove?

maybe geometric pattern would be better here (for those with access)

I 've found that extrude/start from object is rather picky on where it will work.   if the advice @aliobidi gave doesn't work,  you can try creating a zero offset surface and use that as your starting object, sometimes that does the trick.

@laughingcreek - I'm not sure what the result will be.  I think the hope is that the grooves would be straight on this model, but we'll have to see the results to be sure.

ok, this mostly works! I had not Extruded from an Object before. I need to work through some issues cuz it throws an error when I try to Cut 1mm deep at the very edges since that goes beyond the body which does not make sense to me cuz I am actually doing a Cut, but in general I think this solution is going to give me what I need! Thank you!

(yeahhhh you might notice it's a new sketch, I forgot to save all of last night's work, oops, but all good! making progress again!)
