How to edit an Imported .stp file??

Not applicable

I have received a .stp file from a customer. The original designer left several aspects of the drawing unfinished. It loads in Fusion but does not allow me to edit in any way shape or form.  What can i do to get the edit features? I have the hobbyist version.  All the Videos i have watched are older and show the design tab as model. Not sure if that makes any difference. Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you

You won't see any feature history on an imported model (as is common with most solid modelling CAD systems). You should be able to perform direct modelling on it as it is and you could turn the timeline on (Capture Design History) if you want to take advantage of that.

If this answers your question please mark the thread as solved as it can help others find solutions in the future.

I've created a Windows application for creating custom thread files for Fusion. You can find out about it here. Hope you find it useful.

I am sure that it can be edited.

Attach your file here if you can’t figure it out.

Here are the ways you can edit a step file. (.stp/.step)

1. Try the press-pull command in "Modify" menu.

2. Try the thread command on holes that are threaded.

3. Make sketches and then extrudes or other features.

If you want to collect the changes you make as "parametric", meaning they are editable, you had best first turn on the timeline by a right click action on the top node of the model browser, where the name of the design is shown. The command is "Capture Design History".
