How to do detailed view of a Section view

I NEED to do detailed views of a plan Section view of one of my projects as it is very complex and needs to be clear to a client. it seems that Fusion is extremely limited and is incapable of preforming this basic task.

In attempt to do this basic task I have import the dwg into autoCAD but when I try to do the detailed view it gives me this error message;
"unable to preform the requested action. this drawing was last edited with model documentation in a new version of AutoCAD" I am using AutoCAD 2017 and the most up to date Fusion 360.

I am extremely displeased with fusion and think it is a waste of effort at this point as it lacks basic features like detailed  views of section views and break lines.

Hi Ron,

Short answer, as you've found out, currently this is not possible in Fusion 360 Drawings.  This functionality, along with broken views, is definitely on our roadmap though, and we are actively working on new features and getting them out as soon when they are ready.

While this functionality (Detail of a Section view) is available in AutoCAD, the wording of that message is misleading in this case.  As soon as a drawing is output from Fusion the link to the design (the source for the view geometry) is broken so any actions like creating additional views is blocked.

I understand your frustration, and sorry you are disappointed in drawings, but we are still working on it and will continue to do so.

Thanks,
Chris

Thank you for the reply, is there any way to import a drawing/Model with the model geometry into AutoCAD.

can you please give me some suggestions on how to do detailed views of section views. as long as I can do so I will be happy no matter how convoluted and unnecessary the work around may be.

Hi Ron,

No, unfortunately that won't work.  Within the Fusion 360 application there's a 1:1 link between the design (f3d) and the drawing (f2d),  As soon as either is output out of Fusion, that link is broken.

Hi Ron,

Actually, if you export the Fusion design to a different format (like iges) and IMPORT that model into AutoCAD (model space) you can then use the Model Documentation commands VIEWBASE, VIEWSECTION, VIEWDETAIL to create the views you need. It's not ideal, but it should work to get these views created.  Let me know if this works.

Thanks,

Chris

@cmiller66 I agree that the ability to create broken section views (aka partial section views) is needed.  Any idea on when this will be added?

Just to clarify, the section view shown below is what I am talking about (hopefully the same thing as @ron).

Hi Josh,

Broken out section views like that are out on the horizon, but I don't have an ETA.  We are currently working on per-view component support (add/remove items in the drawing view) and multi-sheet is coming up next.  We're aware of the need but there are a lot of other features in the pipeline ahead of it right now (ordinate dimensioning, Tables, and increased titleblock customization to name a few).

Two features which are not too far out though are support of detail views of section views as well as section view participation (specifying which components to cut/hatch or not).  While not exactly what you're looking for, these should allow the documentation of more detailed/intricate sections.

Thanks,
Chris

@ron - Hey! I'm just following up to let you know that as a part of the Fusion 360 update last night, we added in the ability to create detail views from section views. For more info on what else we released, check out the What's New blog here: http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/blog/april-19-2017-update-whats-new/

Enjoy!
