How to design interior geometry

Hi, Im new to Fusion 360 and have a question that I feel should be basic, but have no idea how its done. I am trying to model a key (handle??) or the plastic piece that goes on a key chain, as mine has broken off and I want to 3D print a new one. The question is, how would I model the inside cavity of the plastic piece? For instance, if it were just a regular slot, I could draw a rectangle and extrude it inward, but because this is a slightly more complex shape, (the slot is somewhat T-shaped, how would I model that if it were right in the middle of the plastic piece? Thank you.

I usually model from the middle out from the Origin.  Simply create a sketch on one of the Origin planes.  When you extrude, use the Symmetric option or the Two Direction option.

Attach your file to the thread if you're still having problems with this: File/Export/Archive file *.f3d.

Hi,

according to the motto pictures speak louder than words, it would be good if you would show such an object.

Hi, thank you for the replies. I actually figured out a way. I had the exterior created already, so I created a mid plane, split body, removed one side and sketched the interior geometry. Then extruded (cut) and mirrored the body. Does this sound OK? I am 3d printing the result now.

Thanks again.

That works, but you didn't need to split the body.  See my first post.
