How to cut with a plane

Hello,

I have a quick question.

First I will list my workflow

I am sketching a simple abstract curve and then extruding and then thickening. When I thicken with sharp edge I get a flat bottom(whih is what I want). When I thicken with soft edges I don't get a flat bottom. It is mostly flat but if I were to 3D print I would most likely need a bit of support underneath on each side. My question is.. How can I flatten the bottom plane? I like the thicken with soft edges as I have less work to do when sculpting with edit form. I have added an image so you can see the slight undercut on the bottom edges. The plane in the image was added as I thought I could offset from that plane and then cut.

There are a couple of ways to do this

1. You can use a plane to cut your model.  Here is a screencast showing how to do this:

2. You can use "Crease edge" to create sharp edges on only those faces you want to be flat.  Here is another screencast:

Hope one of these works for you.

This solution is now obsolete.  The latest version does not have a Split Body menu item.  I am trying to slice a large object into 4 pieces so I can 3d print it and there does not seem to be a way to do that.  I need to cut it up because of the convex and concave surfaces in my model.

Strong words, pleased it's not true

Check out the Modify Menu, about halfway down.

Looks good.  It looks like I am having trouble turning my imported IGES files into a body or mesh or anything that can be operated on.  It's a complex boat model and renders and 3d prints fine, but I am just trying to cut it into segments for better printing control.  Oddly, I can use a section analysis plane and slide my cut visually all around/through the model with no problem, but I can't just cut it into pieces using that.

I don't know anything about Iges files.

If the model converted to Stl, Import that,

there is Plane Cut in the Mesh workspace that works the same as Meshmixer.
