How to combine components

Anonymous

I'm tired of seeing this massive list of components on the side and having to figure out which ones belong to which item, especially since I need to copy them over and over. How do I combine mulitple components into one or at least put all the individual components into their own folder?

Hello mr.michaelrader,

You can create a new component and add the components, you like to keep together, to this new component.

Here is a little Screencast: http://autode.sk/1Yqpq8i

Hope is of any help.

Best regards,

Ludo

Hello Ludo,

I tried your method, but, for some reason simple drag & drop of components doesn't work for me?

Here's my screen recording: https://gyazo.com/cf3d809d0d4eef6404fa3142b0c57d96

Working on version 2.0.4126 here.

Thanks,

Radek

Hello Radek,

For the moment I have no access to a computer and only very limited access to the internet so I’m not sure why the grouping of components does not work for you. Next monday (11/06) however, I will be back home, and check this.

Sorry for not being able to be more helpful to you at the moment.

Best regards,

Ludo

@Anonymous You cut off an import part of the screen in you animation, the timeline. Is the timeline marker at the end, if it's rolled back you can't drag components like you're trying.

Hello Radek,

Mark was absolutely right (he usually is) about the timeline marker. Make sure it is positioned at the end to group components.

Best regards,

Ludo

Thanks!

It didn't work for me somehow.
What actually helped was to turn off the whole timeline. It was a final
stage of the design so I didn't matter that much.

Cheers,
Radek

the rules around when you are and are not allowed to restructure components (to drag components into a parent component) when in a parametric (timeline) design are somewhat obscure, unfortunately.  It has to do with what cross-component relationships exist between the components being reordered.  If your components are completely independent, (and the timeline marker is at the end) you should be able to restructure.  And, as you found out, there are no such limitations in a direct model.

Bro.. you just made my day. I thought it was just random when I could or couldn't move bodies or components. Thank you!
