How to Apply/Draw Checkered Plate Surface in Sheet Metal Drawing

Hello,

I am working on a sheet metal design in Fusion 360 and need to apply or draw a checkered plate surface. Is there a way to efficiently create a realistic checkered pattern on the surface of the sheet metal?

I would also like to know if it’s possible to add this pattern as a texture for visual representation or if I need to model the raised pattern directly for fabrication purposes.

Any advice or step-by-step guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

 

There are two ways you can get the Check-plate finish you are asking for. It will depend

on what you want to do with it as to how you create it.

 

Appearance method.

Select your component you want to put the pattern onto. Right click and bring up the menu

and select Appearance.

In the Appearance Library under the Metal and Steel sub-menus you will find

Steel Diamond Plate and several options. You may have to download the Appearance

from the Fusion Library.

Simply download and then drag the appearance onto the Component as you would

with any other Appearance or Physical material.

I personally prefer the 3-tread style.

You have suggested that you may wish to actually Fabricate the Check plate pattern.

While making it LOOK like check plate is easy, if you want to MAKE it check plate then

you will have to model it. This should be fairly straight forward as check plate is just

a repeating pattern so all you need to do is model the pattern and then set up a

Rectangular Pattern.

It really comes down to what you need it for. If you just want to see what it

will look like then put the appearance on it. Realistically I cannot think of a

reason you would want to actually Model it unless you actually planned to

manufacture it. If I had an application where I needed a plate, knowing that

I would simply order check plate then I would just model the plate. It is a lot

of work for little benefit.

hi @arthurQ4G75 !

Adding to @Drewpan, we generally need checkering only on the surface. To achieve this select a face in appearance while dragging and dropping.
