How do you make panel lines/cuts?

Hi

I'm a bit confused on how best to make panel lines/cuts on a mesh. Such as patterns/panels like these...

5g1joz76qhk41.png

I did watch one YouTube video where the guy used Pipes, but it looks like I need edges to be in place first where they'll wind up being, and I'm not quite sure how to achieve this. It looks like they use Construction Planes, but I'm not sure how I can manipulate them correctly. The part I'm trying to experiment on is at an angle. The file has been attached below...

Thanks

Correct.

Simply put - you need sketch line / curves, or body edges for the pipes / or Sweep (a different profile).

Panel lines are added near the end of the part timelne/s.

Might help.....

Is there no way of adding them after a Body has been created? In the same video I saw them use Construction Planes to cut into their mesh to make the lines/edges and then by splitting, I think. I just can't seem to get them to work on the part I've been trying on due to the angle and where the lines are positioned.

Thanks

Panel lines are on a body surface, you will need a body to put them on.

You can use other bodies (edges) to run them on, instead of 3d sketch lines.

I don’t quite follow. Do you mean I should Join other objects so their edges are poking through the faces?

Because you have mostly curved faces and bodies, the panel line tracks can be done with

"To Object " construction.

Best to use a circle profile and then orientation is much easier.

Your file has multi colour panels, and you will be split faces for those, panel lines can go on the same edges.

Create the outlines in a sketch. Use the outlines to cut the face of the model.  Use those as the path for pipes or sweeps.  Emboss would also work, but only on plane or non-compound curved faces.

I am doing it by extruding the profile sketch as a surface, splitting the body, slightly bevelling the edge and joining the body back.

The only drawback is that making any changes in the history before the split has the potential to break the model.

Hi,

Create the paths for the pipes with Split Face.

The "Split Face" function does not split bodies, but only selected faces of bodies.
Multiple splits can also capture multiple faces with the same profile.

Perfect. Thank you so much for this. I always prefer it when someone uses a visual guide or video on how to do something. 😁 I'll give this a try and see how I get on. If I have any questions I'll report back. 🙂

Okay, one question I have: how do you have the Control Point Spline at the top, above Create? I have to go through the Create menu to access it.

Okay, I would be awkward... 😅 I've decided to go about the pattern cuts differently. I want to replicate this design as I much prefer it:

I've tried adding a circular line/cut around the one at the front, but the Split Face isn't doing the job quite right, and I'm not sure how to approach it properly. This is the Sketch I currently have:

I did try flipping the mesh the right way up so it was no longer at an angle, but now I can't seem to manipulate the points of the Sketch like I was able to before. 😕

Hi,

just take a look at sketch "profiles".

There I have "coupled" some control points in the vertical.

How did you manage to get those areas coloured? Were they just given a random material?

Sorry, but I'm still fairly new to Fusion. Where's that option? 😅
