How do I design this Hand in Fusion :(

Hi

I need to create this Hand design in fusion but have very little idea where to start as it seems to have quiet a number of variations.

71185054_10220106951333921_8302803109000773632_n.jpg71340745_10220106952773957_180551238188793856_n.jpg72235202_10220106951893935_2463072128308609024_n.jpg

For reference the Center Finger is 6 inches long.

I feel that from the wrist to the palm needs to be sort of loft creation with each finger being a separate item.

Any directions on how to create this from the start will be great.

Regards

Ian

Can you File>Export and then Attach the *.f3d file of your attempt here?

I'd do this with T-Splines. Below a WIP:

@ianhughes7UFVF do you think you can take it from here ?

Just to be clear, if you've never tried T-Splines before this is likely going to be intimidating in the beginning, but stick with it.

Hi

I think its time that I learn't how to use t-splines, because the hand you created is brilliant.

My attempt before is probably too embarassing to add here as it was created more like making a block and cutting the fingers out:

Robby Work Again 21.JPG

It was totally wrong in shape and concept.

I will have a good look at the file you created and its also a good time to see how you set it up so that I can try and neaten up my work.

I will post my attempt following your methodology as soon as I have something.

Thanks

Hi

I have looked at the hand you created with tsplines and I am totally impressed.

Unfortunately I am having no look creating them. I was wondering if you could do a basic screencast on how you created one of the fingers, so I can see the methodology behind creating them.

I am also unsure how you combine, the fingers and thumb together but that can be something later.

Whilst I have been able to create the rest of the project with basic methods, this one is lost on me as it requires so much more. To be honest, if I can crack making the hand I probably will go back and redo alot of my other works this way.

Sorry to ask, and hope you have time.

Hi

That is brilliant, I am very impressed that you make it look so easy.

I can follow most of that and will give it a go.

The only thing is when you add extra levels to the finger, or adding splines, the screen shows you use an option, but I am not sure what your quick key relates to.

Hopefully I can get this going.

The option key on MacOS or the ALT key on Windows when pressed and held will extrude new polygons. Otherwise you'd just be stretching exiting ones.

Hi

So I have made a start on the hand and following your screen cast.

Now, I am stuck on your the first part.

I create the five levels as you did, changed to the box display and indented two of the faces and then tried turning it back to the smooth display. Whilst the rest of the body smooths the crease we are making stays squared.

I am obviously missing something.

Help is definitely needed.

It looks like you creased too many edges. Uncrease these two:

That worked.

I will keep on going.

Thanks. Hopefully I can get further along this time.

Hi

Slowly but surely.

I think I am getting the idea, so the center finger is done and the side finger.

I will create the thumb next and then look at joining them up.

I appreciate your help.

I was having trouble sleeping last night, so I made a screen cast of my workflow for a t-spline object like this.  In case your having trouble sleeping, watching this will probably help.  I didn't finish it out, but you get the idea...

edit-screen cast didn't attach, here's a link

Hi

Here is the Arm for the hand design that I am in need for help with.

It will give the diameter at the rear of the hand.

I have the outer shape. Does this need to have some wall thickness and how much?

Hi

I just fell of my chair. That is awesome. You are incredible 🙂

They will be 3d printed so I thickness of 5mms is what I reckon would be good.

I totally appreciate this.

How do you intend to attach the hand to the other parts of the model?

Do we need to add any particular features ?

Hi

I was thinking of an internal sleeve that slots into the inside of the hand and into the arm cuff. I imagined this would be a separate piece though.
