How do I cut a channel into an extrusion that was created from a sketch?

Hi!

I created an extrusion from a sketch. I have the following requirements:

  1. I need to cut a 3mm deep channel in the extrusion
  2. The channel needs to run all the way around the extrusion
  3. The channel needs to be centered between the top/sketch face and bottom sides

What is the best way to accomplish this task?

Should I split the body and create a narrower body or component between the top half and bottom half and join them? Or is there a more desirable or eloquent or preferred way to accomplish this?

You can also try another way.
Draw a sketch on a midplane with offset

Then cut out the ring by extruding

In addition, there is a method that could be interesting for bodies that are not cylindrical.
Here you can apply Offset Face.
The surface must first be split. For this you can use a sketch.
