how do I change the diameter of a pipe without changing any other dimension?

Hi --

 

this seems like a silly question, but I cannot figure it out.   How do I change the diameter of a pipe without changing any of the other dimentions?

Hello itchytoes, can you describe how you create the pipe? Because change the dimension of the diameter of pipe is depend on how you create the pipe. Thanks.

There are couple of ways to do that. First and most important thing to know is in which environment you are? Direct Modeling or Parametric Modeling? Other words, do you have enabled Capture Design History?
If you are working in parametric, then you can re-edit Pipe command, and change the inputs. If your pipe was made by extrusion, then there should be some sketch, you can edit that sketch, or turn its visibility (light bulb in browser) and Show Dimension (hover over a sketch in browser and hit RMB), now you can double click on dimension value, that just have appeared, and change it.
Last option is to use Push/Pull command (Q), it will offset cylindrical face by any value you'll use. That method is the only option in Direct Modeling, but remember that values for Push/Pull command will appear different in both of those environment. In parametric when you pick a cylindrical face you need to ad some value, the tool itself will show zero and any offset will be added. In direct environment when you run Push/Pull command and pick a face it will automaticly recognize that this is cylindrical face and the tool will show the radius, by changing that value you're specifying new radius.

Thansk for the replies.

 

Here's what I was tryng to do:

 

(1) I created a sketch

(2) I made a pipe from the sketch, call it A

(3)  I copied A and pasted it, call it B

(4)  I scaled down B so that it is smaller in all dimensions.

I wanted to make B have the save radius as A  but just smaller in all other ways.

 

I tried editing the pipe feature, but that changes the diameter of the A pipe as well as B, which changed proportionately since it is a scaled down A.

 

The press-pull  did the trick.   I didn't realize that I could click on the circumference "face" of pipe B to change its diameter size.

 

One interesting thing I noticed -- I could always click on the pipe end edge of pipe A to inspect->,measure to get its radius, but that never seemed to work for pipe B.

Hi Betty,

So the problem was that you've made a copy, not that changing diameter was any difficult. Next time don't copy pipe body, just hide body A (light bulb), unhide the sketch, and run pipe command once again using same sketch. In result you'll get two bodies and two pipe features to edit.

As you can see diameter of both pipes is driven by different feature, but shape follow same sketch.
