How do I add dimensions to a sculpt in Fusion 360?

I have used sculpting in Fusion 360 to create my initial form.

Now I would like to add dimension lines and (if possible) add constraints.

How do I do that?

In the sculpt environment the way you have is "edit form" and play with the others tolls in the modify tap.

Hi,

Sketching in the sculpt environment is not the same as other environments, because editing the sketch won't affect the form you are editing, so remember, the more editing the less control you will have over the model

The sculpt environment is a direct modeling environment.

This means that you can generate a dimensioned sketch and then extrude a shape from it. However, once the shape is created, the sketch and the shape are not linked and you could delete the sketch. As you seem to have created an object without a sketch - there's nothing wrong with that -  there is really no point in adding a sketch later.

To clarify, I want to add visual dimension lines that (for example) show the length of the part.

When you sculpt, you create an initial length (200mm in my case) and if you want to change change it you have to extrude a face.

If I wanted to change the body to 220mm then I could extrude each of the ends by 10mm but there would be no way to see the resulting length is 220mm

I addition, I need to add features to the body (screw holes, etc) and in need to position that off the features of the sculpt.

How can I do that if I can't dimension off of the sculpt.

I know I can dimension off a sketch.  Is there a way to have the sculpt generate a sketch (like intersecting it with a plane)?

You could try to dimension in a drawing file. It doesn't snap to the points very well but you could get close and then over-ride the dim to whatever you want it to be.

of course you have a way, go to inspect tap > measure , and you can see all the dimensions you want.

I need to add features to the body (screw holes, etc) and in need to position that off the features of the sculpt.

How can I do that if I can't dimension off of the sculpt.

to have a body first you need to convert the T-Spline to BRep and now in the MODEL environment you are available to add features and do the workflow for what you need.

Saeed,

Great video!!  I can see how to do it now; but, it may take a bit before it fully sinks in.

I can see you are very much at home in this environment.  I wish it was so easy for me.

Kudos,

Mark

OK, I have been playing and was able to reproduce what you did.

As a result, I have some questions

1) What tools can target a selected element item (other than pull)?

2) If I want the pull the flat faces all out to the boundaries how would I co that?

Would I need to create a sketch for each face that had the matching vertices and then pull each point the the associated vertex?

3) Is there a way to extrude the back face out to a specified plane while maintaining its cross-section.

I wan to do similar to what you did with the match; but, without changing the cross-sectional profile/

4) Is there a way to create a sketch from a solid or a surface (by cross-sectioning, etc.)?

I found this post showing me how to do that using Sketch..Include 3D Geometry

Hi,

Yes you are right, include 3d geometry will give you the section that is intersecting with the sketch plane

Now you can use the Match command in order to match the edges of your body with the created section, and if you used an offset plane, then project the 3d included geometry to the new plane ( offset plane which is not intersecting with the body )
