How can I save components from assebly as linked components?

Hello, I have an assembly from a machine that we are building. When we need to machine the components what we do is that we save the components as another component withint the proyect. Is there a way to keep the link between the assembly and the saved copy so that if I do a modification in either both see the changes.

I need to be able to do this from assembly to component not from component to assembly.

This because sometime we get full assemblies from our cutomers so we need to separate them into individual componets for ease of use.

Thanks in advance

You can Create->Drive components ( and sketches and bodies) into new, or existing designs.

Changes in the originating assembly design will propagate through to the derived component.

The derived component can also be changed, but those changes will NOT propagate back to the component in the originating assembly.

When separating assembly data given by the customer into individual files, each component uses Save Copy As to create an external file.

We then D&D that file into the assembly and replace it with the original component. I wish I had a good script to do this, as it is tedious with so many components.

In addition, any model changes required for machining are made using the Manufacturing Model found here.

Thanks! This worked out great, it's exactly what I needed.

Thanks for the input that's is exactly what we are doing right now. We have some assemblies with over 300 components so yes it's very tedious. But the solution given by trippy lightning is what I was looking for.
This way I can have the assembly as parent file and do any mods in there and have them reflected on the individual file which is the one used for manufacturing.
Here is where we use the manufacturing model to make changes for machining.
