How can I delete a project

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I uploaded some standard materials  (screws, washers and nuts) to my workspace in a project called Standards.

As I am a newbie I want to start over, because the drawings are not what they were supposed to be.

So I want now to delete the whole Standards project.

How can I do that?

Currently I only have it disabled, but I want to get rid of it completely.

Regards

Florian

Hi student1977,

deleting projects is not currently supported, there is just disable option for Projects, but you can create folders (for instance right from Save dialog in Fusion) under a projects and these could be deleted(managed) pretty easy on A360 web pages.

If you disable a project you could create a new one with the same name as previuos one.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Josef

Have you enabled deleting of projects yet?  My data panel is getting cluttered with mis-spelled and other empty projects, whose names I (nor any of my students) will never use.

Hello wernerf,

no, unfortunately we don't support deleting of projects, but there is an option for deactivating projects in A360. If you deactivate such a project you won't no longer see it in data panel in Fusion.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Josef

Is there a logical reason that we can't delete projects?  I undersand you can deacativate them but some of us just want them deleted.  Isn't it our data?

It does seem silly to not be able to delete a project.  But what I've done with unwanted projects is delete all the data and rename it to something else.

We definitely agree with the need to add the ability to delete a project. It is in the hopper and will likely show up in the July/Aug timeframe. We will keep you posted as we get closer. Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, found a way to delete objects, when they are moved to folders, that is quite a compromise, but its ok

Any news on this?  It sounded like it was going to be added?

You're absolutely correct, deleting projects is something that's on our radar for a while now and has been delayed a bit due to some enhancements in the overall Fusion experience that are coming with it and tied to it. I assure you we haven't lost track of it and are working on getting that available as soon as possible.

In the meanwhile, one thing you can do is use the "Archive" functionality (a.k.a. "Deactivate") to remove a project from the data panel and move it to the "Archived" list. You can think of it as basically the trash can if you like. Deleting a project from the "Archived" list will come of course too.

I don't like this way of working.

It's sounds strange for me that you can't really remove a project but by applying a trick (other project using same name).

I'm a beginner so my projects are still bull****.

What a waste of computer memory...
Also why should you keep your rubbbish..

I guess i know why: keep everything form our users so who knows there are some jewels in between all the bull**** ?

Think i might look for another program whit a different, not so online oreintated apporach.
I don't feel free with this kind of "big brother" filosofy .

kind regards

Hi there,

I apologize on the temporary inconvienice. I assure you the current lack of ability to delete projects is not something we've designed in order for you to keep all your information live. It is simply a matter of a functionality that hasn't been released yet and we indeed plan to do so. In the meanwhile we introduced a way to archive your projects in order to reduce the clutter. I hope that will provide a sufficient solution as our team is working on enabling deletion as well.

Thanks,

Ilai

I think I found a way : in your folder

 AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\PU6NKCCXXKYL\W.login\F

you will find 3 files per project :

nameofproject.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.f3d

nameofproject.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.f3d._xx

nameofproject.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.png

and a subfolder : _XRef_ containing 2 files ending with .f3d and .f3d._xx

delete all the files (not the subfolder),  in your bin if you don't feel safe, and voila : when you start fusion again, they are not there anymore.

Good luck !

Can someone confirm this works and it doesn't destroy everything?

It is crazy if you mistakenly create a project, you can never delete it.  Man Surprised

You need basic tools of being able to edit project folders, delete projects folders, and even move projects between folders.

Ok,maybe I'm missing it. You can delete a project...what I can't seem to be able to do is to delete a "folder" even if it is empty and has no projects in it....

Deleting folders is available, provided you are the owner.

1) Open the data panel (icon in top left corner).

2) Right click on the folder you wish to delete and select "Delete".

There is also a way to perform this in A360, but I typically do it from within Fusion.

Ok, I don't have any of those.  I guess I'm just confused.  Projects "act like" folders in that they can contain "multiple" things/assemblies/files.

However, when I followed his suggestion of how to delete projects.  I have no project files named: "Demo Project*.*"  or any of the other empty project "folders" that I have.  I did a search of my entire computer.   I do see files under the C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\BXZ2KASMGV3X\W.login\D folder which I'm guessing must present these "project folders" However, the names are not consistent with the project names.  So deleting those would be guessing and chances are bad...

It has been over a year now. The problem still has not been solved. Unfortunately we are still unable to delete any projects from A360. The question is why?
