Hole and Thread Notes How to?

I am really excited about the introduction of hole and thread callouts. It has been very tedious to do by hand. However, I can't seem to make it work at all. I made a 3" long 1" dia bar with a through hole and added non-modeled threads. When I go to drawing mode and select hole and thread notes nothing is selectable. I have tried from the top view the side view and a cross section. I am clearly missing something obvious.

Ah, I see it is unable to work with extruded features. I will have to learn how to use the hole command more efficiently. Right now if I make a plate with a lot of holes I make a sketch and extrude it. The add threads. If I need counter bores they are in the initial sketch and extruded.

It would be awesome if this would work for extruded features as well... I never used the Hole command, it doesn't seem to fit my workflow. Most likely, I am not the only one.

Agree the thread details should not be limited to hole command, eg for external threads.

The biggest downside to this "Hole & Thread Note" tool is that it will not pickup hole features in a derived part.

The HOLE feature needs to be on the timeline of the immediate file that the drawing is referencing, since that's where it gets the data from.

This seems to be quite an oversight considering it should have access to the features derived from the original model's timeline if they remain unchanged.

so essentially, it cannot be used on a derived model.

pretty sad implementation of this feature, IMHO.

I'd like to ditto this statement, and add that Fusion's workflow actually encourages part drawings to be created from derived part models. The drawing utility should at very least allow you to select any edge regardless of whether it has all the extra 'hole' data associated with it.

Are there any future updates coming to allow this to work on derived parts?
Most parts from an assembly will be derived out to make manufacturing easier.

Hello All,

We have raised the concerns regarding Hole and Thread notes to be applied on the derived parts in the right forum. I will update here once I hear more about the plan and timeline.

Is there a feature (or bug) request to resolve this very important issue ?

If so, I will gladly add my name to it. If not, I will have to learn how to start one.

Thanks, Joe

Hello @joeh

We have discussed about this and we acknowledge that this is something we will need to work on. Our Product Manager @ClintBrown3D can provide more information about the timeline.

Hi @joeh

I have added your request to our public roadmap (under annotations).

Every customer request that we get, from meetings, emails, forum posts etc. gets collected and categorised in our feature request database. This information is used to prioritise the features that we build next. I've updated the database with your request.

I've asked @rohit.bapat and his team to look into the technical feasibility of support for derived components. Once we understand that size of the feature, we will look at prioritising it.

I'd also be keen to chat to you about this in a bit more detail. If you're up for it, here is a link to my calendar, please book a session with me, and we can go over your request on Zoom.

Hi Clint,

I got the confirmation of our zoom meeting but I don't have a microphone or
camera on my PC.

Can we do a phone call instead ?

Thanks, Joe

Not being able to recognize an extruded hole or a hole on a derived part makes this feature basically worthless. Hopefully Autodesk can fix this soon. It's been 1.5 years, and not update yet.

This feature still does not appear to be implemented. Is there any update?
