Highlighted areas causing gaps in 3D Print

Gurus

Good afternoon.  I'm having an issue with the Fusion 360 software that I'm using for 3D printing.  I'll convert a .jpg to a .stl file and insert it on a new sketch.  Some of the lines being inserted are skewed and I'll have to edit the lines by deleting the inserted ones and creating new lines or arcs.  Which the new lines are blue, and the inserted lines are green (original).  Then I'll Extrude the highlighted sections to a certain depth and then to a new component.  Then I'll Export, 3d Print as an .obj file and I'll import into my 3D printing slicer.  When I do this i get little gaps between layer lines and I'm hoping it's a setting in the Fusion 360 I can change.  I have attached pictures, and you can see the difference between the left side highlight and the right-side highlight, and it has to do with the new created lines.  The right-side picture shows the highlight going past the Line, which fills the extrude.  However, the 3D Printing Slicer is bringing it in and having that gap.  It's as if the 3D Slicer is going Line to Line but the Extrude isn't.

you're barking up the wrong tree.  what you're showing in the pic is a graphic artifact caused by zooming WAAAY in.  This is a problem with all cad systems I've ever used.  you can't trust the visual when you zoom in past a certain point.  the effect is exacerbated when splines are used (because of the extra computation involved).  I looked at the file, and the profiles are fine, the extrudes are fine.  the bodies are touching as they should be.  I suspect what our experancing is being caused by your slicer settings.  do you have pics of he end result that shows your problem?

Hi,

The problem is caused by “unfavorable” sketch editing.

@laughingcreek Here are (2) pics from the slicer and in the Top Layer Pic, you can see the open areas.  So I narrowed down the open areas to where i added new lines in Fusion 360.  Which i assume is the extra computation.  The file looks great and bringing it into the slicer looks great, but after slicing it, it gets a little wonky.  I'm going to try exporting in 3d print as an .stl instead of .obj's and see if that helps.

after doing a comput all, an issue becomes evident.  the bottom layer of the flame logo is over lapping.  here is a vid showing it and what i did to fix.  try the attached file and see if things work better for you.  one of the pitfalls of using capture position as you have instead good modeling techniques.

I see what you are talking about.  I will give that a try.  I designed it that way to save on filament changes during printing, so basically I'm only doing the last 1-2mm worth of printing, changing colors.  Saves on time too.  Thank you sir, I'll report back later me findings.

It didn't help, same result.  However, I learned that if I export it as a *.step file instead of print as *.obj files, that in the 3d printer slicer it works as intended.  I notified support for the 3d printer and they are looking into why certain file types do this.
