help with the patch tool please

I have been trying to patch up a surface for literally twelve hours. I cant get the surface and trim method to work because the it is not just a plannar surface. It is a complex curved surface.

The surface has 550 panels. Its a large part. I unstitched all the panels to try and gain access to just the edges I want.

The hole I am trying to close is not a closed edge and that is the issue. Im trying to make it a closed edge. So I unstitched the surface and then added a line (sketch) where I want the close surface to be so I can try and use the patch tool. The patch tool will only auto select the edges of the panel even when I try and force it to select the edge I tell it to.....

Im at a loss. I need to basically create an artificial closed surface of a complex shape. Im trying to piece it together in other words and then stich it all up.

On the picture example below I created the line across and im trying to get a patch in that square essentially. Its not really a square its an off camber flat plane. If I try and use the patch command instead of using the edges I selected it selects the edges of an entire panel like im showing in photo two.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Either try deselecting chain selection when using the patch command or try lofting one edge to another, again turn off chaining. If that doesn't work, you will have to attach an f3d file of your model.

You could try turning off Chaining.  This may help with "If I try and use the patch command instead of using the edges I selected it selects the edges of an entire panel like im showing in photo two"

But, this would be easier to help you if you would share the model.
