Help with a slot around the diameter edge of a circle for a seal

Hello everyone. Newb here trying to learn. I am trying to make my wife a replacement lid for one of her cups. Everything is coming together fine, however I can't for the life of me figure out how to insert a slot for the seal. I've Googled and watched some YouTube tutorials but they don't seem to apply the type of slot i'm looking for. I think if I started over and made the bottom part of the lid like a pulley using Revolve and them assembled the upper lid, I might make it work that way. Thank being said, is there an easier way to do it with what I already have? Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

There is nothing simpler than Extrude or Revolve.

Take a look at the video.  You can adjust the size by placing your dimensions on the Revolve sketch.  I attached your model with my slot addition.
