Help? Solid Works imports are failing...

Hi everyone,

I really hope, someone help me understand why I can't import Solid Works files into Fusion?

I've taken a look at the video's on how to import these & (I think, at least) I'm following these to the letter... But I can't get the data in, what ever I try.

Here's what I found, so far:

- Uploading a separate STEP file (only), generated by Solid Works is working

- Uploading a separate SLDPRT file (only), generated by Solid Works is working

- Uploading a separate SLDDRW, generated by Solid Works is failing.

- Uploading an SLDASM, together with it's SLDPRT files is failing.

- Uploading the SLDPRT's seperately & then follow up with the seperate SLDASM file is not allowed (which makes sense, I guess).

- Uploading all available files (including STEP) together, as shown in the video's, is failing.

I've attached one of the error reports (they're all the same). It seems (?), the assembly file is directing to a file on the local C-drive for inputs, but - of course - those are not on my system. This path is on the system of the CAD engineer that assembled the SLDASM file...

I am uploading the assembly file and the component files all in 1 go - WHY is it looking for a local drive & folder??   Can that *really* be the error? If so, how do I solve this, from my end?  With Fusion?

I would really appreciate some directions here...  🙂

Cheers,

Harry.

Importing an assembly REQUIRES importing all the parts referenced by that assembly.  So if your PC does not have access to some of the SLDPRT files, you cannot import the assembly.  Get the missing files, put them somewhere on your PC, and update the references in the assembly to point to those files, THEN import the assembly into Fusion.  Or, you have to delete the references to the missing parts from the assembly before importing it.

I've imported dozens of SLDASM files, some rather large, and hundreds of SLDPRT files into Fusion with very few problems.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your response.

Actually, I do have all the files here & I was uploading these together with the SLDASM.

But now that I re-re-checked, to make SURE that I have ALL files, it suddenly hits me....

The file names in the error report are different! The files as I extract them from the customer's ZIP file are ending on [name]-00.SLDPRT, while error report is listing the missing files without the "-00" portion. Apparently, for some reason, a number has been added to the file name - after the export set had been generated?

I just re-created the file path on my pc, as mentioned in the error report & also modified the file names to match the ones named in the error report. And *now* I am finally seeing the assembly.

Again, many thanks for your response - it made me look at the right details!  🙂

I had to go back to the customer in the morning ...  and now I know, what to tell them.
