Help selecting open pockets with 2D adaptive clearing

Hi all,

I am new to CAM with Fusion and I cannot figure out how to select open pockets with 2D adaptive clearing. It will le me select one or more faces just fine, but then gives me a warning that the toolpath is empty.

Everything looks fine using the exact same approach for closed pockets, am I missing someething?

My project is attached, this is basically the selection I made:

A related question: I am able to define a toolpath by selecting "chain" then the 3 edges of one pocket (painful which is why I'd like to select faces), and the extension goes to the stock boundary, potentially going through nearby  pieces. I understand I could use "stock contour" and manually select the nearest edge to avoid, but isn't there a one-step way to set up the operation so that it never runs into other parts of the model?

Thanks!

Franck

Hi,

I am not a CAM expert.
But:
1. you can't machine a 4 mm pocket with a 4 mm cutter.
2. you have to change the setting for "Stock to leave".

Thanks Günther,

After reading everything I could find about that "empty toolpath" error I did manage to machine those pockets. I changed the bit size to 3.99mm, cleared stock to leave, used "plunge outside of stock" and a few other adjustments.

I ended up using 2D pocket instead of adaptive clearing though, from what I read (and the little I understood) it seems like adaptive clearing won't be useful for a 4mm tool in a 4mm slot.
