Help needed Fusion 360 Design

I am a Fusion 360 newbie. I am trying to learn how to make a bowl that I have seen and printed on Makers World. I have attached the STL files and the 3mf.

 

I wanted to make a mermaid version for my daughter. I have managed to create the inner bowl fine. I got super stuck on the outer bowl, managing to make a version that looks like what I want, however does not line up with the inner bowl. This then causes overhangs in slicer.

There has to be a simpler way that will align everything than what I have tried to figure out.I have attached my fusion file so show what I have managed so far.

Hi,

If you have got the inner bowl working correctly then probably the easiest way to

get the outer bowl to "line up" is simply use the Thicken tool if you created it with

a Surface:

Or use the Press Pull tool if you have a Body as the inner bowl.

In terms of lining up your shape on the outside then simply use the 

Extrude tool:

And set it to Join instead of Cut:

I would strongly recommend that you have a look at fusion RULE #0

that is pinned to the top of the forum. There are excellent learning

tutorials embedded within the Documentation and in the Self Paced

Learning.

I tried everyone's suggestion, and thank you so much for the help. I think I stumbled on a workaround whilst trying all the suggestions. I'm still not sure it is the easiest way to achieve what I wanted. Doing a test print at the moment, so will see!

I have attached the file I used to print. Exported the parts I needed in STL and added them into the slicer as one part.

If anyone knows how to create this better would love to know.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. All the help is appreciated. I did try the extrude tool as I thought it would be as simple as that; however, it would not let me select the bowl with cutouts on the base.

Using your theory, I then used the surface patch tool to create the mermaids. I thickened and moved them. I have attached the file below still hoping for a better or easier option being out there.

Hi,

This is a very complicated method to get the end result and I am not sure why you did

it this way. My first impression is that you could get rid of 90% of the timeline by simply

drawing this profile:

And then revolving it around the Z axis. The profile isn't quite the same as the finished 

shape but with a little more care drawing it it could be. You could then either use Shell

to hollow it out or a surface and thicken it. Basically two steps. You have way too many

Planes that I can see very little use for.

I don't know why you have embossed the shape twice the way you have or why you have

cut the shape all of the way through. You could have embossed the shape on the inside

and then embossed the same shape on the outside. It would have lined up perfectly.

If the reason was to get a shadow effect that might be the reason but I am not certain

of this.

I am also quite confused as to why you have then split the bowl into two Components.

Are you planning on 3D printing this as two separate halves? You have two choices as

to how to print this, either as two components with no infill or as a single print with 100%

infill. Both would work but the no infill version would be quite weak mechanically.

I am currently having a go at this myself and will post my file when I am done.

Hello thanks for reply. I did at first try the revolve method and had issues with the image pattern. I will be interested  very much in how you go about this with a lot more experience that I clearly have.

When I print I copied the setting from the original dolphin one

Inner bowl  no top or bottom shells or walls and 30% infill - I have tried it with one wall and think I like that better

The outside layer I do 100% infill and 2 walls

It did come up non manifold edges but will give it a try anyway

I am so impatient, I scaled down so I could see how it went. Could not be happier I'm thinking I need another image higher and in between so keen to try out doing it with your technique.
