I need to create a cone for a project but I can't figure out how to make it.  Any suggestions?

Sketch a triangle,

Revolve, using one of the edges.

  • You can set the taper angle while doing an extrude.
  • The chamfer tool can also create cones when used on a cylinder.
  • The revolve tool, as @davebYYPCU suggested, is probably the easiest.

  1. A loft with a circle and a point could be a solution as well
  2. Cylinder with a chamfer
  3. Revolution of a triangle

How do you bend said cone when done?

Loft a base circle, to the end point of the bent centre line (rail).

Thanks. I got this far.

Any chance to get help to hollow it out so that it has a x cm thick side wall?

Use the Shell Tool, pick the body for internal cavity,

or select one or more end face/s to make it a tube.

Another problem appeared.

When using multiple interconnecting lofts, they cannot be used to split each other, leaving not a cavity, but instead an overlapped lid where there should have been a hole. It would have been so easy to use split body tool using the yellow lofts below, but I am not allowed.

No file, and not the bent version?

Because you have used Surface Loft, you can use the Surface > Modify > Trim tool, over and over, if the picture shows the problem properly.

I tried to delete the yellow Lofts, and using the same start and end circle as before, but now the Loft tool is not working. It only works on new cylinder bodies. So I am stuck with the old yellow lofts that I chose.

Trim tool got me this far, but now the two remaining yellow lofts want to delete each other with the  Surface > Modify > Trim tool.

Set the view to be looking up from small end.

Select the tube you are looking through. Turns blueish.  Then select inside the walls to cut, 2 to cut have to select both sides

3 tunnels, 3 trim cuts, works as expected.

Thanks! Tricky, but I succeeded with the trimming.

I have made some 1 cm thick cylinders to find the shape of my cone. The goal is to coat the inside and outside using Loft.

When I curve my cone, is there a way to keep the distance (for example 30.012cm in the image below) between the center of the cylinders the same as before, even when I twist and turn in my cone? It would be nice to anchor them to my sketch line.

Also, as you can see my sketch line is not even close to the center of the cylinders.

I think there is a bug in the software. 5 min ago I managed to make a beautiful Loft using all my cylinders, by clicking on the blue edge. Now the blue edge is gone and I get error when I try Loft tool, because it selects Faces instead of the blue edge. I tried restart.

You know that there are two lofts tools, right?

The solid loft (blue icon) only selects closed regions (sketch profiles or faces), and produces a solid result (and, just FYI, will not support "hollow" lofts, as in your example):

the second is a surface loft (orange icon).  It creates a surface result and supports open profiles (edges and sketch lines/curves):

That's better. Strange that my new Loft surface will not change apperance, but inside will.

And I still don't know how to curve it. My simulations dictate the shape, and then I will ruin it slightly by curving it. I guess I needed to start with a sketch. I had to use eye measure to center my ring bodies according to my simulations. There has to be a better way. 🙂 I saw that you can "connect" sketch lines to bodies. Maybe this is a clue to make it do what I want.

"Strange that my new Loft surface will not change apperance, but inside will"

that is a peculiarity of surface bodies.  The steel material is applied to the "outside" of the surface, while the yellow color is applied to the "inside".  There are a few (very few) commands where this matters.  You can turn it off if you want.

"My simulations dictate the shape, and then I will ruin it slightly by curving it"

use a Centerline rail.  You can modify the curvature easily by adjusting this curve.  A Centerline rail does not have to precisely touch the profile curves, which makes it super easy to use

Thank you for the help. I want to split my loft like sliced bread with 15mm slices, in order to saw it out by hand, or send it to CNC in many 2D files. But it is not allowing me to split it.

I just uploaded the file, and it it is editable. I can't even select the model. The splitting tool (a rectangular box) I can select fine.

Solution: Export it as a Step-file, upload it again, and start splitting per instruction. Your own format does not allow splitting lofts, for some reason.

@joni_lundberg

Can you Attach your latest Fusion file and the resulting STEP file for explanation?
