Help Cutting Sloped Face in Object

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello!

I know I just posted regarding threads, but now I am stuck on something else. I am trying to cut a sloped or slanted face in an object.

I uploaded a file I am working on to hopefully better show what I am working with.

This slope needs to be in between the ridges on the smooth spot of the outside of the cylinder.

Hi,

Just draw an elevation of the cutting shape and extrude cut it

Regards

You can use the method @SaeedHamza posted.

Another method would be to create construction plane and use that with a Modify->Split body operation.

There are a number method this can be accomplished with.

I tried this I believe, but I didn't have much luck getting the shape and slope as needed. I may of been going about it the wrong way though.

I also tried using a construction plane, but did not try to split face. I will try this, but not sure how this will get the needed shape.

Thanks,

Justin

Is this is the result that you desire, or it's not curvy enough

or you could use loft to get a better and more flexible cutting shape

Thanks for the videos and responses, I really appreciate it.

That is a bit different than I am looking for. I am looking for something more like the included picture.

It needs to be an angle cut in the face. I tried using the revolve tool, but don't really understand what I'm doing with it.

I guess what you mean is something like this, but this works in case you don't want the cut to go all the way through

That is closer and the correct shape. Sorry to be such a pain, but I am looking for it to be sloped kind of like this picture. The only thing is with the picture I posted is I can't get it to cover the whole area and to slope properly, but should give you an idea of what I mean.

I also uploaded the files I'm working on.

Oh I see, this is most likely a Loft, and you can adjust both upper and lower profiles to get the shape you desire like in this screencast

Another way to do it is to create a plane in the sculpt environment and edit it to get to your shape by using split body with the tool extended, but it's not recommended since it could produce inaccurate results, so go for the loft

Ah perfect. I think that should point me in the right direction. I have been trying the revolve tool and just extruding the shape to0.

Thank you! I will mark your post as a solution soon as I get this working on my end.

I am convinced that the Loft tool is what I'm looking for, but this is the closest I can get currently to the nice rounded shape I'm looking for. Any ideas?

Following your description it sounds more you're looking for a convex rather than a concave sliver of material to be removed.

Here is one approach just using a sweep :

That looks like exactly what I was looking for. I will test out using sweep. Looks a bit more complicated than Loft initially, but the results are what I was wanting.

Thanks and I will post back once I figure this out.

I'm trying to do the Sketch Dimension part of your video, but it is taking the dimension from the center of the drawing instead of the two arcs.

Hopefully this makes sense.

I actually got this to work properly and the result wad exactly what I was looking for. I wad missing holding down the shift key I believe. I think it just seemed more complicated at first because of the extra steps of the sketch dimension tool, but it really is fairly easy to accomplish and allows me to set particular parameters.

Thanks again for the help.
