Help combining bodies

Hey!

So I've been designing a gopro chin mount for my helmet. After several iterations I've arrived at something that I am happy with and that can be 3d printed. Unfortunately I'm having trouble combining the bodies so I can export them as .stl for printing. This is probably due to some messed up geometry after messing around with it too much. I tried patching and stitching the "chin mount" body but instead of getting a flat surface, the software renders the plane as a weird convex shape. And when I try to combine the "chin mount" body with the "snap" body I get an error. This is the only step I have left to make it printable, and it's quite frustrating. If anyone has any idea of how to fix it it would me much appreciated, as I'm not looking forward to starting the project from scratch just because it's bugging out.

Hi,

there are too many mistakes in your design, especially lost references which takes too much time to analyze.
My recommendation: Start from scratch and don't ignore warnings because you will be punished for them later.

yet, lots of weirdness.  In general you have approached this with a bit of a photo-shope type mentality, which doesn't work well with parametric modelers. 

you do have a pretty decent end result, but at the cost of being able to easily edit and make changes.  I suggest the following-

-keep practiceing.

-model around the origin.  try to use the origin planes for symmetry.

-to make changes, go back to the originating feature in the time line.v(ie-learn to use the time line)

-DON'T USE THE MOVE COMMAND. like, ever. it's evil.

-learn how to use components.  they can be tricky at first, but when used right it makes everything easier.

 

on this model I think things really when south on you when you made the chin piece into a surface body instead of a solid(I guess by deleting a face in surface mode.  donno, didn't look into it that far.

 

here is a long tedious screen cast of me fixing your model.  didn't know what I was going to do going in, so there are some missteps.  the main thing here is I turned off the history so it would be a DM model instead of parametric.  you lose the timeline when you do this, but in this case the timeline wasn't useful anyway.

I was pretty much resigned to redoing the whole thing. Yes, I am a bit of a newbie to fusion 360, and coming from stuff like sketchup I'm used to beating it until it works. Perhaps I was a bit too ambitious with it given the complexity and my lack of mastery of fusion.

I'm still getting used to parametric modeling, and since I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted it was more of a hindrance than a benefit as I was always going back and forth and making changes with no regard for the timeline.

 

Thank you again for the solution, and for the tips! I'll keep those in mind in the future.
