Guidelines on making a setting on a ring for a diamond or CZ?

Does anyone know of any good guidelines or instrtuctions on making a good setting for a diamond/CZ on a ring?  I've got most of a ring designed, but I don't have much idea on how to make a setting to hold the CZ (I don't trust my skills for keeping a $$ diamond from falling out,) securely and let it get proper light, etc?  The CZ I'm planning on using is a 7.5mm diameter (about 1.5CT equivalent) round cut.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

How are you planning on making the ring? Are you going to cast it or 3D print it? And what material will you make it out of?

Material will be 14k white gold.  Process is TBD, but most likely lost material cast by some commercial service.

Edit: I do plan on proofing on my 3d printer (Form1+,) but will let whatever service I end up with handle printing the castable part.

OK. 3D printing services have more specific guidelines for their materials, so if you were 3D printing it I would suggest looking at the printing service's guidelines. I'm not a jewelry design expert, but the typical setting for such rings seems to be the prong setting, probably with 6 prongs since the stone is large. I don't have more specific guidelines though.

I will keep to the requirements of the service of course, but there are additional requirements for a good setting.
