Fusion 360 with ITAR and export controlled files

Hi everyone,

I am hoping I can get a response from someone on the Autodesk team but I am wondering if there is a procedure in place for handling export controlled files given that Fusion is a cloud based software.

Best I could find is a bunch of skeptics saying it isn't possible for Fusion to handle such files but I would like a more concrete answer from the Autodesk team. For instance if the  servers are located on US soil and Autodesk insures only US citizens from their team are able to access user files then there should not be any risk of an ITAR export violation. Or if there is a way to mark files to prevent them from being put on the cloud, that should also work.

If Fusion currently has no way of handling export controlled documents, then is there a roadmap for a release in which it will support them?

Thanks

That is correct, currently Fusion is not ITAR compliant.

I literally just got off a call with an Autodesk rep discussing my options about an ITAR compliant software solution and currently Inventor is the workaround as previously stated. However, he did mention that making Fusion ITAR compliant is high up on their priority list, but currently there is no ETA on it. It is a very complex task to implement. So for now I’ll move forward with the Inventor solution and keep Fusion for when making non ITAR parts, and cross my fingers that this gets taken care of sooner than later so I can make Fusion my one stop shop.

Plus, he did mention that there will eventually be machine simulation added to fusion and they already have a manufacturing extension you can buy with various add ons like toolpath editing and what not. So once the ITAR thing is figured out, Fusion is going to hurt a lot of feelings in the software world.

Need is a strong word. Why do you NEED it?

I second this! We use Gibbs Cam right now and I'm trying to get my shop to change to Fusion. We deal with ITAR parts so I am not sure if i am going to be able to convince them if I cant at least come up with an efficient work-around.

The only work around we have so far is using HSMworks for us. Fusion is basically useless to us.  Unfortunately HSMworks is missing some of the features Fusion has on the CNC side, but maybe one day they will update HSMworks.  Is been the same for years it seems with little to no updates.

"Stop the data sync!"

I may be missing something, but why can't fusion 360 just block data sync and allow local save only? You can work offline for a few weeks but have to connect to verify license and then data sync automatically happens. Given you can work offline means no actual computing power or data is needed, just literally a license check... "Stop the data sync!"

If it's money... make "data sync blocked" an extra cost... it will probably still be cheaper than the alternative.

My work is just a handful of employees but our work is itar compliant. This software is perfect for our business from design to machining, such a pity we can't use it.
