Fusion 360 sometimes missing functions or buttons aren't working

Hi everyone,

I am learning Fusion and have hit some obstacles that are giving me pause about furthering investment with this

- Sometimes when starting a new sketch, even on a completely new project, there's no reference snapping or visible cues that I am indeed sketching anything. I see on screen 'select first point' and I can see my mouse but after clicking the first point (which hasn't snapped anywhere visibly) there's no line vectoring from that point. I can draw a second point for example and there is absolutely 0 feedback that anything has happened.

- It seems to connected to the same issue above, but when starting a new sketch then hovering over the initial 'Select a plane..' also has no effect. Starting a new project may resolve this, but not always. I have restarted the program to try again.

- Sometimes buttons simply don't work. For example hovering over the default 'Home' view on the 3d box and there's no feedback. Clicking achieves nothing. Fusion 360 appears to not be processing anything either and I am still able to rotate by dragging the 3d cube. To resolve it I have left the app to do something else and come back and it just works.

Very strange issues. Could having an intermittent internet connection contribute to these things? I have toggled 'working offline'  to see if it changed anything but it didn't. I am working from a cabin in a remote location where pings are probably anywhere from 40-250ms. Not sure - coming from a background in other 2d and 3d design applications I find the delays in Fusion awkward and hard to fall in love with. I can see it is clearly a powerful program when it  works but having random functionality just missing it doesn't feel production ready yet. Or is it just me?

Running F360 2.0.7046 on Mac 10.14 on 12 x 3.46ghz, 96gb ram, 8gb RX 590

It may just be you, or your hardware. The problems you are reporting are not common to all users. This indicates it may be hardware related. What you describe should not be affected by internet connectivity.

Taking them in order:

Can't see sketching: Did you happen to turn off the visibility of the sketch folder while you are sketching? Check the eyeball on the sketch folder or the sketch itself, in the browser tree.

Not sure what you mean by "select a plane". Are you saying that you cannot pick a plane to sketch on? That requires a click, which is more than "hover" as you describe.

View cube issue: This is a known issue related to view cube and trackpad. Are you using a mouse or the trackpad? Try this next time it happens: Right click on the view cube and use the top menu item "go home". Let me know if that helps.

If you could make a video using Autodesk Screencast it would help tremendously in sorting out these issues you are seeing. Barring that, any kind of video or even screen capture images could help.

Thanks,

Hi @Phil.E I see this one on my Mac at times too. I start the command and drag out (line, circle) and nothing happens. I could type in the value and hit enter and it will appear but visually it doesn't dynamically show up. If I switch to a different design tab and then back again, all works as expected.

Thanks Phil, I will try to get a screencast of the issue. In the meantime let me clarify.

I haven't touched any visibility settings that I'm aware of and definitely don't change them again for the app to correct itself.

By select a plane I mean Open Fusion -> New sketch -> hover over a plane or axis and there is 0 dynamic feedback. When working correctly, as you move over an axis the plane swaps and is highlighted. In my scenario there is no highlighting of any plane as you move the mouse around over the axes. I can indeed select a plane but it is like working blind. As though the whole interface hasn't initiated yet. Sometimes a new file can correct it. Or just alt tabbing out of the app and coming back.

Thanks for the tip re the cube. Will try that next time the issue surfaces.

Yes this lack of visual dynamic feedback is exactly what I have faced as well. I can't see the sketch or the spline points I might be snapping to but it appears that it is indeed recording the actions.

Here's a quick video showing how a body component just goes missing when I alt-tab out of fusion to do some math in the calculator.

So I'm doing a pattern repeat rectangular - alt-tab and you can see the body is gone. On returning to the app I can see that entering different values is changing the position of the body but you can't actually see the body.

This issue is similar to what we've been facing with visual feedback disappearing.

Thanks.

Just curious, what happens when you click "ok" to commit the pattern command you show in the video?

Unfortunately I clicked cancel and then initiated the the pattern tool again and it worked correctly.

These issues are sporadic and somewhat difficult to recreate.
