Hi,

The files that are online deleted, are they really deleted or is there still a copy of it?

Thanks,

Dan Engels

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

Can you elaborate on this a bit more? What happened? Did you visit A360 and manually delete your files, or are they missing? If they are manually deleted, then yes they will most likely be deleted from the cloud (as long as you opened the file within Fusion there should be a local cached file that we can recover however). If it is randomly missing (should be there, but you are not seeing it), we should be able to recover it! If that is the case, do you see it in A360, but not Fusion? Do you not see it in both Fusion 360 and A360? If this is the case, can you please open Fusion and toggle to offline mode (select your name in the top-right corner and select Work Offline). This will toggle your local cache to be used - is the file there however? Also, if you use the search function within your data panel can you find the file?

Regardless - can you please send me your diagnostic log files (go to the help menu within Fusion and select Diagnostic Logs).

Thanks,

Thanks James,

I'm just trying Fusion 360. So far I like it, because it is an in between Professional modeler from Inventor/Solidworks etc. and those modeler/rendering packages like Cinema.

But I am a bit worried about sending documents over to an unknown server/location. Because that seems how Fusion 360 works. Online.

Often I work on customers CAD files and they are always reluctant to send there files to a third party. I use those files for extracting parts so I need them only temporary. After that I can delete them (After I saved it as local desktop copy). But I have to know that they are really gone on the server side?

Thank you,

Dan Engels

Hi @Anonymous,

Ah I see where you are coming from. This is a little difficult to answer - but I will try my best! So yes, Fusion is a cloud product at the end of the day. Regarding your question of permanent deletion, I do believe the answer is yes, but I am not entirely certain if any remnants get left over on the cloud side - let me ask around on the development/A360 side and see if I can find out more specifics.

Fusion does have a completely offline workflow however! Check out these articles here and here for more information about working offline with Fusion 360. Theoretically you do not need to save data to our cloud servers, but the workflows you use may have to differ. For instance, our translation servers (the servers that allows Fusion to open files such as SolidWorks native files) are all in the cloud so those will have to be uploaded to the servers before being able to be opened in Fusion. Generic file formats such as Step, Iges, won't matter as you can open all of those without the cloud translation services. Also, you will need to be connected to the internet at least every two weeks in order to validate your login information and make sure you have a valid Fusion entitlement.

Cool. Thank you James for your answer.

I did not know that you can work off-line with Fusion 360. I usually work with step files, so,... I will try this out....

....opening of importing a file doesn't seem to work for me in off-line mode.

Have to think this over,..thank you.

Hi @Anonymous,

Not a problem, glad to help! In order to upload files in offline mode, you need to use the File menu and then select New Design from File. This will allow you to open the file locally and select files such as step files. This differs from online mode where you would use the upload feature within the data panel!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks,
