Fusion 360 locks when Windows 10 returns from sleep

I've been looking at the forums for a solution to this, and found another problem about the PC waking from sleep after a few minutes which I have also had so thanks for that!

My problem is that Fusion 360 is usually locked up when the Windows 10 PC returns from sleep. I notice in the forum that there are several Mac users reporting this, but not PC.

Any ideas? Fusion is not a fast program to start up, so it would be great if I could sleep the computer and still use it after!

Hi,

I've not seen a lock up on the Windows side. Is there anything else running that requires internet connectivity that might also be initializing while Fusion is trying? e.g. AV updates, OS updates, firewall initializing?

Also, does Fusion come up in offline mode?

Additionally, is there anything about the network you're connecting to that might also require additional time? e.g. proxy server, Hosts file redirects, etc.

Finally, can you send us a copy of your log files to see if we can detect anything? These can be generated in Fusion via the Help menu (?) then Diagnostic Log Files.

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

Yes, there is AV (Windows Defender) and always OS updates of course! Don't know about Firewall initialisation, but all other programs return from sleep OK.

Network is WiFi on a dongle as it's inconvenient to use cable in this location. No problems elsewhere except sometimes Google Drive takes a while to connect but always recovers. No proxy, no redirects. It does not come up in offline mode, just hangs and can not be switched to, or shows Not Responding.

Log file attached - taken after it had just happened again this morning. Machine returns from sleep and all programs except Fusion work fine. Hover mouse over Fusion in the task bar and the little program preview does not appear like for other programs. I can not switch over to it by any method like Alt Tab.

Eventually it does allow me to switch to it, but it is showing Not Responding in the top bar. Leave it ten minutes or so and it's still the same so I close it. All the files have to be recovered even if they were saved (no asterisk). See Screencast if it works - not sure about settings!

If I right click on the icon in the task bar and select "Autodesk Fusion 360" then another instance of it starts, but I still can not close the original.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi,

I've had this too about 4 times today. Whenever I leave the Windows 10 PC and come back 20 minutes later the machine has gone to sleep and when I wake it Fusion displays the browser section and the menu but nothing else but gets stuck in not responding and I have to kill it.  When restarted it prompts to recover files. I don't remember this happening before the last update, I'm fairly sure the PC has been asleep with Fusion running and it was ok.

Thanks for this - glad it's not just me!

Pretty much the same thing happens with me, though I often can't switch to Fusion even though it's running in the task bar. I end up having to kill the process.

I don't think it's since the last update for me though as it's been happening a lot and through several updates.

It became a real nuisance when I reduced the time out for sleep because the PC was mysteriously waking itself from sleep and I didn't want it awake too long especially at night... But that turned out to be due to Fusion too!

Hope they get it sorted, never did like waiting for computers to boot or load programs!

Hi,

Sorry to hear of the trouble. Can you tell us what kind of video card you have?

And have you tried setting the Graphics Driver in Preferences to DX9 or DX11 (default is to auto-select) to see if that helps?

Also can you set Fusion to "Limit effects to optimize performance" via the Help menu (?) then Graphics Diagnostics? I'm just wondering if video initializing is playing a role.

Finally, can you post your log files so we can see if there's something specific to your set up that may be affecting Fusion's initialization?

Regards,

Hello,

Video card is Intel HD Graphics 4600 - not particularly powerful but works
with everything else I use.

I have now set Graphics Driver to DX11, and set the "Limit effects to
optimize performance" as you said.

Interesting you should say about video initialising. This morning Fusion
did not lock up after PC sleep, but when I try to use "Insert into Current
Design" it returns a message:

"Error: Position calculation failed due to initialization error".

The object seems to be there, with the positioning dialogue, but when OK on
the dialogue is pressed the object disappears.

Latest log files attached...

Many thanks,

Gareth

Hi,

If this lockup doesn't happen with DX11, then it means that it could be a classic DX9 device lost issue on Windows which we should have fixed. Is it possible for you to upgrade to the latest Fusion 2.0.2317 build and then switch back to DX9 to see if you still have this problem? If you do, then we need to look into it further to understand if there is some other DX9 resource we are not handling well when device lost happens.

Thanks
