Fusion 360 - Disc with Sloped Curved Top Face

Hi.

Need some help with creating a Sloped but Curved on the Top Face of a Disc shaped object. I've only got as far as making a Disc by sketching a circle and extruding it. I'm trying work out, not very successfully, how to slope the top face from one edge to the other. One direction is Curved but the other is flat.

One edge is 3.34mm in Height and the other is 2.85mm. The curve goes from Edge to Edge.

I've uploaded some pics and the file. These discs will vary in height from edge to edge as they will follow holes in a Pedal Pad curve.

Thank You in advance for helping.

Attached is one version of how to do this:

@TrippyLighting

It's similar in shape but it only has a curved face going edge to edge but not the other way. The pedal face is flat in the transverse direction.

Do you remember helping me out last time with a pedal pad? Foot Pedal Curve

I can’t get to your file for a while,

if it were me, I would model the pedal,

create it without holes in it at first, and extrude all the circles up to that (face) object, as New bodies.

Hide them, and use the same / similar circles to cut the holes in the pedal.

Might help.....

Your sketch does not look anything like the part you are holding in your hand?

I'm not trying to design what I have in my hand. I'm showing curve the pedal pad has. I'm trying to design buttons/discs/coins that fit into the holes of the pedal pad.

Message 7 of 30

In order to design the buttons, you'll have to design the pedal.

I've designed the pad. (see attached file) I've scanned the bottom of the pad and I'll use that to work out how the holes are spaced apart and provide dimensions below. I'm not sure how to find the spacing for the top holes.

I'm thinking that can a stem with slot and pointed ridge be added to the underside of the "buttons" ? So that can be pressed into and through the bottom hole?

Some ideas for you,

If I had my time over, would be a mirror of the top or bottom, as I didn't see your sketch 2 was symmetric at the time.

Buttons are flush at the moment, can be raised for grip easily  Insert the Cap screws and edit the back face depth when you work it out.

Thanks for showing me but I really need a video to follow as I not sure what to do as I'm a novice.

I measured 3.34mm from the inside edge of the hole closest to the center of the pad. That 3.34mm continues horizontally through all the countersunk holes. The insides of each hole is not the same due to the curve of the pad face and the holes inside wall depth will gradually decrease less than 3.34mm.

Fusion Timeline has a step by step display,

if you open the browser, unhide what is hidden.

then send timeline marker to the beginning, (First, I imported your dwg to use as a guide)

You can press play, or step one move at a time.  You can select an icon, and Right click, Edit Feature to see the settings for each feature.

Load my file, (your file with edits in it), and play around.  Happy to answer questions.

The depth on my holes are all based off your sketch 1, so each horizontal line of holes are different depths, you will see as you dance around the file.

My file has your parallel floors.

Might help....

Call me Mr McGoo but I can't find the .f3d file with the edits in it?

Your not blind - I think @davebYYPCU forgot to Attach the file.

I was going to comment that when I download a file it shows up on the (hidden) second tab of my Fusion - but when I went to take a look at @davebYYPCU file - I don't see it either.

Oops, I thought I did, but here it is....

I had a quick look and I'm still not sure how you did it but I'll have a longer look when I can as my brain is sleepy as it' late at night. Apologies in advance if I don't understand your instructions.

The length of the stems minus the pointed tip will be from the bottom of the Buttons/Plugs/Grommets to the bottom of the pad then the tip gets added on.

What's the block for?

The Buttons/Plugs/Grommets walls look longer than 3.34mm. How to shorten them?

How are slots cut out of each stem?

How do I just Export each one for 3d printing?

Please make a video so I can learn Please.Pad Button.jpgPad Face 2.jpgPad Face.jpgPad Fusion 360.JPGPad Plugs Fusion 360.JPG

My demo - was made before the disclosure of your 3.34 dimension, I put the block on to match the pin shape, no drama.

Edit the Extrude that makes the first button.  Reset the starting position with the amount to cut off.

How are slots cut out of each stem?

Now that I have enough detail of the button, will make a few more changes,

How do I just Export each one for 3d printing?

for the 3 bodies that are individual, select and Save As Mesh, in your Slicer copy the buttons to 6 and 4 of each type.

Will return later with file updated, and a few pics, but Screencast and I don’t get on.

You will learn quicker, knowing it can be done as a whole project, and doing it yourself to suit the dwg.

And with the new info, a bit of direction change, there is nothing? to stop the button rotating.

Sketch 1, is now top of the job, so I can use the Hole tool, 1 right through, (patterned) and the others Counter bored, and then chamfers.

FBPdl5.PNG

I agree with the Whisperer, made the first button with Revolve and Extrude from Sketch 3.

FBPdl6.PNG

FBPdl7.PNG

Copy / Moved the other two for first row, and pattern second row.

FBPdl8.PNG

Then cut all with Sketch 2.

Fusion did not let me mirror all 7 bodies, so did the block separately, then the 6 buttons mirrored ok.

@jeff_strater When rolling the timeline back, why are the future bodies in the browser listed, and inactive, (like this about a month or so) prefer they are not there to avoid the confusion.

I was just thinking about that! Maybe Friction will hold them in place, however I don't think it would be enough and I thought about glue but I'm not sure which to use for plastic to metal.

Other option I also thought of but I might have to ask about editing the file again. Make them with a cylindrical stem that ends shy (.5mm) at the botton of the pad with a M4 thread inside each one and I'll use a screw, either a real M4 or 3d printed. Would that work?

Message 19 of 30

Dab of silicon, would do it.  Easy to remove. Friction with tight lower holes will be ok.

Removable cross bar in the slots?

Might help....

What kind of silicone? Selleys All Clear?   https://www.selleys.com.au/products/sealants/

The stems width would have to increase then wouldn't it but by how much and how in Fusion? I measured the bottom hole at 6.39mm. Can the stems width be increased by .02mm and How? Not the end point though.

Ah, now I understand the problem description.  Somehow I missed that in the original post.

I am thinking Revolve - Intersect (New Body) as a start.
