Hello all,

I have a need to import Adobe Illustrator files into the Fusion software. I have been able to get them in using the svg function but the scale is enormous.

1. Are SVG file sthe best way to get Illustrator files in?

2. How can I have them come in at the correct sizing?

Hi

For now is the only way that is possivel to bring data from illustrator

the best way is work in px/px, you can make a square 100px by 100px and save to SVG that will recorspond to the unit size.

best regards Rishi

You may be able to use the Scale command from the Modify drop down menu in the Model work space to select a sketch from the browser to scale (after inserting SVG). I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Accepted solution

When you insert a SVG file in to the scene you will see a bounding box appear for moving and scaling the SVG file to the size you want before you commit to the insert by clicking on Stop Sketch.

Here is a quick demo

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the pixel in svg to units in fusion in order to keep the correct scale, that was driving me crazy...

Hello!

Im trying to import some .ai drawinbg into Fusdion 360. Have tried .dxf and .svg exports from latest version of Illustrator but no luck getting a workable drawing. The .dxf has incomplete lines and unconnected points and the .svg has a "bad lexical cast" (pls see respective attachments)

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Brian

Hi bpsikes1

I think you ned to Join the point paths in Illustrator, overlapping the points of the lines. to joint in Illustrator use Ctrl+J (Windows) or Cmd+J (Mac). our Selection tool to select the open paths and click Object > Path > Join

check this post at Adobe

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately I though about that and tried it
but the lines you see are made in pathfinder and they are "invalid objects"
that can not be joined according to an .ai warning box. In lllustrator all
these points show as joined but there is something about the dxf export
that gaps and disjoins them.
Best,
Brian

I'm having the same problem as bpsikes1. Did you have any luck coming up with a solution?

I solved my own problem.

The fault was mine.  I had taken a PS file and directly opened in in Illustrator, then tried to save as .svg.  The biggest problem was that I had so many different layers on top of each other.  In the end I cleaned up my project in PS, merged all of the all of the layers, pressed command (on a Mac) and selected the layer thumbnail to create and outlines of the features, then selected the Paths tabs, and created a path.  Next I copied the path, then open Illustrator and pasted.  Then in Illustrator I selected Object/ Artboard/ Fit to Artwork Bonds.  Then did a 'save as' whatever_name.svg to my desktop.  From there it was easy to bring the .svg into Fusion and was very easy to see, place and scale.

Hope this helps.

Same problem for me, same solution. Creating a single path in Illustrator made all the difference

When I need to bring an illustrator drawing in from Adobe Illustrator to Fusion 360

This is how I do it

In Illustrator

Prep drawing scale it 1:1 size in mm

Join Paths (if required)

remove strokes and fills

Set artboard to exact size of drawing

centre drawing in artboard

Save as SVG file

In Fusion 360

Units in MM

Select face of object

Insert SVG

Set SVG Scalling to 1.3334

This works for me

I find it easier actually using DXF.

Create in illustrator 1:1 in mm

Join Paths (if required)

Set artboard to exact size of drawing

centre drawing in artboard

Export as DXF keep scale 1 and 1 in the options

In Fusion

Insert DXF

Place and then make sure you change units to mm.

Presto

You just saved me from certain suicide! My svg inserts into fusion would always have line breaks and I was hunting them down and manually patching them. It would take hours on large graphics.

I tried your dxf method, 1:1 etc. Perfect! No breaks.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Mine seems to work at 1.33752 at least in the design i'm working on now. Measured a known sized object and did the percentage math. In this case a 23" entity imported as 17.196"

(23 - 17.196)/ 17.196 x 100% = 33.752
