Form a guide on end of thread?

I am trying to model this part:

Thread terminates with locating rebateThread terminates with locating rebate

As you can see the thread stops short of the end of the cylinder and forms a nice lead in for the back nut to locate on. I've tried to create a similar model but can't figure out how to make the thread terminate nicely like that:

Thread runs to end of cylinderThread runs to end of cylinder

As you can see the thread just runs off the end of the cylinder wall. There is an option to offset the thread but that just steps it back from the end of the pipe, blocking any nut you would try to wind on.

Any of you Fusion gurus able to show me how to achieve this?

Thanks in advance

Brad

Hey @Anonymous ,

This technique will help you to achieve that - https://youtu.be/ngJPpCpg6zs. In this example, I used the Coil tool, but you can also use it with the Thread tool. Just remember to Untick the Full Length and manually drag it to the length that you need.

Here's another way using the built-in threads. The first part shows how to get a square end on the thread. The second part uses @Beyondforce's technique to create the lead in.

@jeff_strater It looks like the forum software has been broken again.  It's not possible to add text or images after inserting a screencast 😒

@Anonymous You can also just fillet the end of thread:

Thanks,

I would have done so but had no idea which of those formats I should export. Early days... 🙂

Thanks to everyone who replied, I'll go through them all this evening and try to get my head around each technique and will thank you individually as I do so.

Thank you very much, etfrench.

This seemed to do the trick for me.

Sadly it took an hour or so, it's no fun getting old. The first answer linked to a video that seems very good, but was too quiet for my old ears even on max volume.

I could follow this video but had to put it on the big monitor and zoom in on the browser to make out the menu items.

But that's my problem not yours. Once again many thanks, I now have nice leader on the thread!

Cheers

Yes, good point. But I really wanted to set it back from the edge as well, as you demonstrated above 🙂

Hi Beyondforce,

That looks really good but the volume was a struggle for me. I'm getting on in years and even on full volume I struggled to hear it all.

But thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. 🙂
