Forces are not passed to other components

Hi. I am currently working on a linkage project.

This is how i define the assemble joint using as built joint.

When i simulate the design, the force that i applied at the upper linkages did not passed to other linkages, that other linkages just received 0 MPa stress.

Can anyone tell me how to make the forces passed to other linkages? Thank you so much!

Hi @13118043 

 

Did you define contact in the Simulation setup? Joints and other things that position the parts in the Design workspace do not carry over to the simulation workspace.

 

The next problems will be

  • What type of analysis are you performing?
  • Does that analysis type allow the model to be statically unstable? (Hint: Static Stress and Nonlinear Stress do not allow any part of the model to be statically unstable.)
  • Is any part of the model statically unstable?

Hi @John_Holtz 

 

Thank you for your help. I defined all the contact types and set the automatic contact tolerance to be 3mm. I also applied much bigger forces to see if the forces will be passed to other component or not, but the result still showed that it didn't passed to other components, it passed a little but nearly zero...

 

I used statistical simulation because i think the structure is stable...

Hi @13118043 

 

It is hard to see in the images, but it looks like some type of constraints (pinned constraints?) are applied to the joints of the model. Constraints connect the model to the ground; they do not define how one component connects to an adjacent component.

 

Unless the linkage is welded to the ground, meaning some other piece that is not included in the simulation, then the constraints are wrong.
