flange not working correctly

when i create a flange and want it to be parametric, you suggest I extend the end to the surface. This is all well, but try to ad an mitered flange on both sides after extending the flange to a surface. The extended side will not work.

Maybe I am missing something.

Hi @MariusBaard,

When you are extending one side using the Extrude with 'To' option, you can see that all the side faces on the extended side are merging out into a single face. That is the reason why you see different behavior on extended side vs. the other side.

If we don't use the 'To' option and just use 'Distance' option, it works as expected but of course then you don't get the parametric relationship.

This unfortunately sounds like something we may have yet to teach to Extrude 'To' option. We will dig a bit deeper into this and will investigate it.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks.

Hi Anand.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I noticed the solid face and reason it wont flange like other side.

Never the less, I still love this program.

I worked on Creo, Solid Works, On Shape and the likes of Autocad, Kase Make, Atrios and even Rhino.

Fusion 360 takes the cake and eats it.

We will patiently wait for the minor errors to be sorted as this program evolves to greatness........

Many thanks for the kind words, @MariusBaard! 🙂

And thank you for the feedback and reporting the behavior. Much appreciated!

Hi Marius,

Please take a look at this and let me know if this will work for you.  As Anand mentioned, you can leverage the Distance option and make the behavior parametric by leveraging parameters that tie the extent of the second component to the inside width of the first component.

Best regards,

Thanks Sanjay, this is great, you should show me how to do this please.

Or even better, get the program to do this automatically like Creo

Hi Marius,

My apologies for responding late.  If you play back the timeline, you can see the features getting added.  Essentially, I tied the inside width of the c shaped channel and the flange length of the second component to the same parameter.  If you'd like to get on a call, I can talk to you about it with a screen share or post a screencast recording.

Best regards,

Sanjay Jayabal
