Fixing a sliver

I've a problem with a combine operation that left behind an uncut face and I'd like to know the best/easiest way to remedy the problem.  The bodies involved were derived from the same sketch but do not behave that way.

and there's another issue being that I can no longer insert any sc via the interface - I have to navigate and get a link.  Tiresome.

@smallfavor  where to begin....it is very tough to figure out what you're plan is with this design. if you create a component within the wrong active component take the time to undo and make the correct component active.

the reason the sliver is there is because the bodies/components are in fact not derived for the same sketch.  the reality is that there are two unconstrained sketches and therefore not the same.

your file is attached

If you want to use one sketch.....

  1. make sure it is constrained fully!!!!!
  2. when you extrude select new component instead of new body each time and make sure the correct component is active before you create it

I played with your model and got it to work but to be honest I would scrape this and start over.

Things I have noticed

  1. Your sketches are not fully constrained.  this is a MUST!!!!!!!
  2. you also have bodies in the assembly and not in the sub-component.  see picture the Body in Slats assembly looks like the component Lower in the frame assembly.  BAD idea.
  3. there is no need for you to be using the move command so much.  instead use joints to assembly things
  4. you should NOT be using mirror when there are no left/right features. use joints here too.
  5. no need to be using all the combinesust

Again, thanks very much for the help.  The four tips provided are appreciated.  I have to learn to use the joining function.  The body left in the assembly was an oversight.

I'd made a copy of the supports sketch to have a cleaner sketch to extrude parts from.  I assumed the copy would remain true but I can see the contraint needed to insure it.

One thing however is I use the mirror tool to place objects in lieu of additional construction drawing(s)
