Feedback on approach and why it's starting .25" above stock

Hi! I have no fewer than 30 hours into this ridiculously simple project, yet I remain stuck. It's a floor vent cover/grate.

I thought that I had finally gotten it figure out (ignoring the absurd machine time), yet, when I pulled the trigger the bit hovered a quarter inch or so above the surface on the first cut. 12mm, I think the zeroed readout said. I manually zeroed ... twice. ... with paper.

I'd soooooo welcome any input!

Hi @todd.n.beaulieu ,

I did check the same and found that the setup origin is located at the bottom of the part and if you have set the Z zero on the top of the part in the Actual machine it might be the issue.

Your setup:

I change the setup:

Please check the same and let us know it this helps.

Wow. What a dumb mistake, huh? Thank you. That worked. I keep bouncing between vcarve and F360 as I'm getting into this. Lots to learn and strengths and weaknesses of each.
