It's a simple thing, either we need a force delete regardless of whether or not a part file is being used or referenced. Or when a file is deleted from an assembly it gets removed from the previos versions saved so the file can be deleted from the project without any issue. I spent a half hour at least trying to delete a file only to find a work around that wasn't mentioned in the forums. I had to make a copy of the assembly the part used to be in into a folder so it was then a version 1. Then deleted the original assembly, and finally was able to delete the file I started out wanting to delete. This is an issue that shouldn't be an issue and there's no good answers on the forums, and flat out needs fixed in future versions of the software.
Next time you have the issue, try the method outlined in this Blog article and video.

Also I suggest you that you also add this on the Ideas Board... Because maybe this can get lost deeper into the Forum... And the Concerned Team or Persons might not notice it... And that's a dedicated space to put up your Ideas and for others to comment and vote if they like it or have any further suggestions...
I personally have no need for the 100+ old versions of my models.
1 or 2 old versions would be a good enough safety net for me.

There is no Fusion 360 Ideas board at that link.
The Fusion 360 Ideas was discontinued some time ago (I think more than a year ago).
Yes sir I know that Fusion 36 board had been discontinued a while ago... But we can post it to other softwares forum too... Which has ideas of softwares who don't have a board...
