Extrude basic shape of a body without modifications to the body being included.

Is there a simple way to extrude the same shape as the chassis here without also extruding the cuts and holes in the chassis. I want to just extrude the same shape as a new body then shell it to make a simple cover for the car. I don't want the cuts and holes in the chassis in the new body. Just a solid extrude. What is the best way to do this?
